Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I have become adicted to Ancestry.com and am lucky enough that one side of my family can be researched way back into the dim times.

The other side has hit a brick wall and I have to wait until someone else in the world may have more information.

How is everyone else going?

Oh flashie, that wedding dress... isn't it absolutely wonderful.  I don't think I could bear to sell it and I have to wonder why a museum didn't take it.

I do hope she gets a very good price for it and it goes to someone who will cherish it as well as that family did.

I have been lax of late.  My little poodle Gem had a cruciate ligament operation a couple of months ago and isn't recovering very quickly - too much arthritis involved... Hate seeing my dogs age ๐Ÿ˜ž

I have a bad back that won't go away X-(  so have done a lot of ancestry.

Most of my lot go back hundreds of years and the history is amazing.

One family that lived during the time of King John (was not a good man, he led his life aloof... A.A.Milne) were not very nice people, but did have sixteen children.

Their name was Braose and they had big holdings on the Welsh border.

Anyway when King John came to the throne his cousin was a contender for the throne but suddenly vanished under very mysterious circumstances.

Lord Braose seemed to have been involved in the vanishing and Lady Braose (a rather fat and corse woman) let it be known she knew about it.

Shortly after Lord Braose was imprisoned and Lady Braose and her son were caught and walled up in Bures Castle where they starved to death!

Of course the story is much longer... but it would need to be read :^O

Wild and woolly days me thinks.

What a shame there is no one in the family to want/take the dress. I hope it has found a good home.

Ditto. ๐Ÿ˜„

I hope they put the dress in a museum or historical house/society.  It's SO gorgeous!

Punchie you have a new message :^O

I am now learning how to unravel ancient history... sigh!  It isn't the history so much as it is ancestry members wanting more and more Dukes, Lords, Kings and Barons... aaarrrggghhhh..

( I have to admit they are all American)

One simply can't make a Prince out of an ordinary person who might have found America before Columbus... especially as he didn't come back with any history.. ๐Ÿ˜ž

Hope this isn't boring.. ?

Erm... I need to share but have no one to talk to and feel a bit worried it sounds a bit 'grandiose' telling you here....

Mind you, everyone is related to well known people once we can crack the wall...

There are THOUSANDS related to the same people I am and I bet you lot are too if only you could crack through...

I am still trying to crack Henry Gibson and now I feel fairly sure his family were originally Scot.  They lived in Durahm near Berwick upon Tweed, and there are no further records of them in Durham, but there are Gibson in West Scotland... sigh ๐Ÿ˜ž

Like the Gibsons of today they don't seem to care ๐Ÿ˜ž

Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

Hi everyone, have not been in for a long time.

Well I have made a lot of progress. I have managed to trace back to my great great grandparents on my fathers' side. That was a bit of a feat. Spent today in Toowoomba finding names and graves. Had a great day and it made me feel so good.

Found my dad had three half brothers but sadly all are deceased.I will be heading up there again to go through the local history library.

Oh wow Purple. 3 half brothers and you didn't know about them.

It does give you a buzz when you find out something no matter whether it is a sad situation or not.

It is really incredible the info that our forebears didn't or couldn't share with us, also sad I find.

That said not everyone is interested in family history and it's only people like us that get wrapped up in it all and find it so interesting.

My family is such a mix. I have 3 half sisters and 2 half brothers. ( one is deceased). One full sister and brother. There were another three children but they passed away shortly after birth. Trying to track down my fathers' life as a child is difficult. We never even knew we had family. I am so disappointed I never got to meet my grandmother. Actually I never got to meet my Mums mother either. She passed away when my Mum was 4 years old. Leaving three littlies ranging from 6 weeks to 4 years. My grandfather remarried and I have half uncles and aunt on my Mums side of the family. Plus full ones. So we are a bit of a mix. I hope you can understand what I have written. lol

I also tracked down the names of my half siblings rellies and found where they were buried.

Now I have to just keep tracing backwards to see where we came from originally.

Here's a bargain!! https://www.findmypast.com/

This is for a worldwide subs. on the US site only, until midnight US time on Sunday - $4.95/month so only approx $60 for a year.  I signed up as it's normally around $224/year. I also said I lived in Australia and it took my subscription. ๐Ÿ˜„
