Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I have become adicted to Ancestry.com and am lucky enough that one side of my family can be researched way back into the dim times.

The other side has hit a brick wall and I have to wait until someone else in the world may have more information.

How is everyone else going?

Darkside..I am not sure whether I should feel elated or horrified after that post LOL.

I am looking forward to it immensely.

I was going to wait until I retired but after reading this thread I have decided to jump in head first ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh jump in head first primary... it's the only thing to do, and let's face it, it's a wonderful distraction when life gets hard.

It is never ending and we just keep learning more as we go along. I Google a lot about either the people or the times or the history of that time and stories as I find things that apply to particular ancestors.

You will find tho, that you will want to retire early :^O

No line is ever done kitty, there are thousands of years of ancestors on both sides of the family and just as you think you can't find anything further something more pops out of the woodwork.

My mother's side goes back as far as the second century - and yes I do take the accuracy with a grain of salt, but it is there and constantly coming up with further information.

My father's side, even with Flashie's help and the help of a very good friend has presented us with very little, but that doesn't mean to say that at some point something will crop up from someone else and we will be off and running again..

It's a lifetime's work, it really is ๐Ÿ™‚

The convict I found for a relly turns out to be part of a group (farm labourers etc) called the swing rioters who destoyed the threshing machines in the 1830's. 450 of them were transported to australia and I think it was 48 were sentenced to death. She is so excited he wasnt just any old convict, she said her mum who was known for her outspokeness but now deceased would be doing the happy dance. Im glad I made some one happy.

Its been interesting in reading how others are going.

My research has basically stopped for now. I am one of those people that likes certificates and documents to back up my findings, meaning a "my great granma told me" doesn't cut.

Anyway, if someone wants a little help with searching for military records in Australia, drop me a line I'll see what I can find.

Darkie....did you ever get around to having a little play with my Adversity Brown to see if she was connected to Adversity Cousin?

Is Adversity their name? I have had some unusual names pop up in my research but I think Adversity would trump mine. Hopefully from times when people werent so educated and know the meaning, so hopefully they wouldnt be teased and mocked.

Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

Adversity was her christian name.

It is a strange name isn't it....that was why when I found an Adversity Cousin born in Lincolnshire too I thought they must be connceted.....maybe mother and daughter..

To prove my theory all I need to do is find a marriage of Adversirty Cousin to a Brown.....but so far no luck

Yep.

Reading handwritten forms is an artform at times.
