Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I have become adicted to Ancestry.com and am lucky enough that one side of my family can be researched way back into the dim times.

The other side has hit a brick wall and I have to wait until someone else in the world may have more information.

How is everyone else going?

There is an awful lot of information and records in the Canberra War Memorial, but I'm not sure how to access it...

Soooo I Goolged it and found this...

http://www.awm.gov.au/research/people/

Here is all that I found in Google

http://www.google.com.au/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=Canberra+War+Memorial&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&redir_esc=&ei=UML5TfjICIKkvgPC8cihAw

All my WWII rellies are there and it isn't too hard to find them.

What helps is if you have their service numbers.

Good luck Primary ๐Ÿ™‚

National Archives have great war records. You can usually see their original applications and any correspondence.

Trove is also a wealth of information. I limit the search to digitised newspapers and have found out about horse and cart accidents relatives had, my great grandfather being charged with diluting the milk (he was a dairyman and it seems was very common practice). Lots of little interesting bits and pieces to help put personality to them. Glad you found some bits and pieces.

matega, I never seem able to get Trove to spring forward with any information for me, are they essentially Australian?

All my rellies up until my grandparent are from the UK, so maybe that's why. Must take another look.

My maternal grandfather's line just doesn't run out of steam... it's been a real history lesson. Of course the further back I go the more I have to be aware there will be flaws, but really it doesn't matter... I just love the history.

See ya later.

Darkie yes it is Australian records, newspapers etc, so unless you grandparents moved to australia you wont find anything.
I know what you mean about the history lesson, its great isnt it. Something that can be so frustrating can also be so rewarding when you find a little snippet or that next breakthrough, its what keeps us on the hunt.
