Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I have become adicted to Ancestry.com and am lucky enough that one side of my family can be researched way back into the dim times.

The other side has hit a brick wall and I have to wait until someone else in the world may have more information.

How is everyone else going?

Blackcat sad about your ggg's death but the certificate put you on your journey. My gg was shot by his dog. He was a farmer put the rifle down to get through the fence and the dog and chain got caught in it and shot him. I read it in the old newspaper articles.

Flashie I can imagine your devistation after all that work, fantastic that the family wouldnt let you give up on all and that here you are still chasing around after them now.

Toon can I suggest if you cant get truth out of your dad, if at all possible contact the step mum asap, cause once shes gone it will all be so much harder. Any little info she could give you may be useful. Good luck

Am loving the stories, keep them up

The convict was a woman, so I imagine she had a wonderful time at each of the ports ๐Ÿ˜‰

The death of the baby, I have great sympathy for the mother. Like one of you said, we have no idea what went through her mind. I did view the court records and she claims the baby was stillborn, yet the Coroner said otherwise.

Toon my great grandfather was known as Jack, yet his name was Abraham...go figure!

Why do people give more than one child the same name??

I have a family with John as their eldest child and also John as their youngest child ๐Ÿ˜ Wouldn't that get confusing?

The first John would have died....it is not uncommon for them to do that...especially if one of the grandparents were called John

No, the eldest still alive when the mum passed away, he notified her death. Weird, I only discovered the second John when I got a copy of her actual death certificate.

They were born 13 years apart, both John, but different middle names. Only 3 boys in the family too, so its not like they were short of names to choose from.

Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

thank you for the information you found for me yesterday, flashie..
those wards of the State you found, one of them may well be my elusive great g/f..on his death cert his eldest son wrote 'unknown' in the 'parents' section, so I guess we can take that as the truth..he was probably an orphan..
so that will probably be the end of the line as far as my research for him will go..
which is a shame but that is just one of those things..

thank you so much for your help with that little mystery..

now I am inspired to work some more on my other elusive ancestor who has had me stumped.
:-x
there is always one..or a lot..isnt there

;-)

My MIL had no idea on naming her boys. My OH is "M......E....."; next son is "P..... Lee" and the youngest is "Lee D...."! AND there are no Lee's in the family tree on either side? Lovely lady but a bit boring all round. :^O
