I heard someone ask for a sexist remark to be withdrawn. She ignored that and went on to say she heard someone else call out madam asbestos so dealt with that instead.
I think she's past her use by date and should have retired already.

Getting back to the OPs topic, why can Australia not process assylum seekers in Australia?
When I came to Australia, we lived in Bonegilla for a while. This was originally an Army Camp built for 5,000 men and women. Later it was even extended. The camp was ran by Army personell, the food provided was strange to some of us, but it was good and adequate.
Now they have demolished all the buildings bar one that has some heritage label and is practically a Museum.
Why can the Government not construct similar camps onshore and have them run by our Military Forces and Volunteers? We do have room for such places and in the long run it would be cheaper than paying judas money to some islands that promise a lot and give nothing, because they don't really want the refugees there, only the money.
Also the processing of the assylum seekers could be simplified and quicker.
But what do I know? I'm only an old woman with simplistic ideas.

You're right Erica. They closed down on onshore processing facility in Tassie recently. It used to be army barracks, I think.
