Are unions a legalized protection racket ?

Vote and then express your thoughts on the matter.

Perhaps you might like to let everyone know how YOU think unions work.

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Re: Are unions a legalized protection racket ?

In the old days that was enough. It's getting increasingly difficult these days to cruise through life with one job, or two.

Thats an interesting point, when I started working in the 70s I had so many different jobs doing different things, it was so easy to get a job and the pay was excellent. I was earning 50% above award rate and constantly being offered more money to work for someone else.

However by the mid 90s things changed and jobs were harder to get and bosses became more difficult and the need for a union became clear.

Re: Are unions a legalized protection racket ?

My Mum was a Clerk in the 70's.She and many other women in the field saw the need then...to try to get equal pay for equal work.

Some women apparently didn't think they should as they would get married and leave anyway ,some feared that men would stop opening doors if they got paid the same as them.My Mum was already married and the main income earner in our family at the time.I think those who were most apposed were older men.Kind of as though that in the paying women for their work  (and it being equal) the men themselves would be missing out on something ?

Re: Are unions a legalized protection racket ?

Wow, the examples of what can happen if we don't stand together on certain issues, are all around us if we just care to see them....

In the past couple of days a woman attended Blacktown Hospital (who were so obviously understaffed) she had to give birth to her child with the help of another patient....LIKE SERIOUSLY?  - It's no different in most hospitals in this state, particularly Rural.

So, who's responsible?  Bazza O'FarreLiar that's who.  More front line staff?  BS - More Quality Services? BS - Giving people a say on issues that affect their local communities?  BS.

When Govts. shortsheet services to the extent of placing lives at risk, surely it's time to DEMAND that Politicians get over their Cranial Rectal Inversion Syndrome and stand by election promises.  At this point in time, O'Farrells BS contract with NSW is one huge testament to fraud. = he bought votes for empty promises.

How much BS are we willing to take until we hold people like O'FarreLIAR accountable for his lies, damn lies and Politics?

....and who do ya reckon is gonna take the fight to his door?  THE NURSES UNION that's who !!!  Strength in Numbers.

Re: Are unions a legalized protection racket ?

new south wales' anti-union liberal party lackey o'ferrell's a joke, every day more break-downs, hold-ups, and stuff-ups with the inner sydney rail and transport system,
every day more truck crashes on major freeways (he changed the name from freeways, to motorways, so he can put tolls on 'em)

now they're movin' the two most profitable speed cameras to outer areas where volume of traffic,  is a problem (funny, thought they claimed that speed cameras weren't just a revenue-raising exercise).

approved the newcastle rail line to finish at wickham.   hmmm ...    all that freed-up land in the newcastle precinct, prime real estate opportunities, for 'is developer mates to make millions out of, once that public transport and all that land is gone, it's flamin' gone.

he's given further approval for private development at bangaroo at darling harbour, for 'is whatsit mate packer to build a flamin' casino on, described as the "worst of Dubai architecture", and shut the land off from public access

.

dithers around makin' a decision about the development of williamtown as sydney's second airport.

i kid you not, the bloke's a joke.

Re: Are unions a legalized protection racket ?

If you remember back Eloi...the last Lib Govt in NSW wasn't much better and did exactly the same thing...made huge promises, & once elected, slashed the hell out of everything.  They had one term and we put them back in the Political Wilderness for 16 years.  Wonder why? = & now we have 'groundhog' day.

I wrote some musical ditties back then for radio one that went a bit like this...

Nothing could be finer than to vote out Mr. Greiner and his Chro-o-o-nies

Nothing could be sweeter than to rid ourselves of hypocrites and pho-o-o-nies

If I sat in parliament for only a day, I'd take the floor and here's what I'd say.......

Greiner....can ya cut it any finer

Liberal National Combiner

If you're looking for my vote, start thinking again

Mr. Greiner

NSWelshmen are all saying

Your government will not be staying

To sell our State to who you please.....

Oh Every night, why do I shake with fright?

Because Nick Greiner might

Keep cutting back on me......

The name of the man is Greiner

always in the daily paper

Handing us another Caper

If you listen to his rave then you'll listen to anyone

Greiner....thinks NSWelshmen need refining

User pay or start resigning

This is the Corporate Company.......

etc..."Lest We Forget"

*makes note to write one about O'Farrell*

Re: Are unions a legalized protection racket ?

Sadly NSW leadership is a joke no matter which political party is in power.

O'Farrell of course is just as ineffectual as all the others that he berated before him. Probably even more so if you consider he came with ridiculous promises that a 5 year old would have known would never happen.

So far all he is done is slash into vital services instead of focusing on improvement.

Re: Are unions a legalized protection racket ?

Couldn't disagree with that martini...by the end of days the ALP in NSW was nothing short of pathetic also....None of them are accountable (left or right) & you know what they say about Absolute Power.

Do ya reckon it's time for new parties to emerge?   or for a political integrity commission to keep the barstools honest etc?  We can't keep going from bad to worse and back again...!!

I suggest the Nero Party with the Cue Party in opposition , to start with that is.

Couldn't do any worse than what is there now, in fact it would be a vast inprovement.

The LL Party could be the frindge minority 🙂
