Is it possible for God to send us to heaven or forgive us without torturing and killing his own son.

You expect me to have the answers, I don't understand lots of things, but i listen to my gut and it tells me to accept Jesus into my heart, to try and make God proud of his creation in me. I don't have much in the way of this life, i missed out on alot, suffered in jail, seems like i get the blame for things past my control. i've had it hard, what really have i to lose by putting all my marbles, all my hopes into something better after this dreaded life, whatever that might be. I just don't want to end when i die, can you blame me? I want to continue to exist in some way, I can't imagine anyone actually wanting to pass away into nothingness.

I can't wrap my mind around never again being able to wrap my mind around anything at all. Am I making any sense? I'm trying to explan this as best I can.

I don't put a great deal of stock in the bible, or how it's interpited, I do belive in God, I do accept Jesus as my savior. I don't understand the reason and nature of it all, but guess what, I don't need to. Far as i understand, it's not a requirement

If you don't put a great deal of stock in the bible, then you have no Jesus. Your argument essentially refutes itself. There is almost no proof of Jesus outside the bible. I direct you to Richard Carrier and other modern historians that are doubful that Jesus even existed and here's you saying you don't even care for the bible thereby rejecting pretty much everything about Jesus. I don't get you.

Wishful thinking doesn't make it true. I want to win a million dollars in lotto doesn't mean I will.

For someone who openly admitts you don't understand much or any of it and you essentially don't even take the bible seriously, why do you dedicate your life to such a belief?

God couldn't possibly do that, bob. God is love and rape and murder do not come from love, they come from other emotions such as lust, hate, etc.

I would suggest that sin is knowingly going against God's golden rule: to love one another, as Christ loved us.

Before I explain to you why, can you state for the record that your bible God has never condoned rape or murder?

Does the Golden rule come from God? Is there an exception to God's rule that it's OK to treat some particular group of people differently?

Does Christ love people who don't accept his existence? Are they forgiven too?

We send soldiers into battle, and for murder brand them heroes.

We encourage free sex, then condemn the rapist.

God is love, bob. You cannot seperate God from love, they are not two seperate dishes served together. Love in the absence of God is lust and hate - lust in the absence of conscience is rape, and hate in the absence of conscience is murder.

So since God is love, he must love everyone as it is against his nature to not love. But those who don't accept his existance are only forgiven if they ask for forgiveness and truly repent.

Oh dear. Another one who hasn't read the bible. Matthew 10:34

It's great you're a lovely human being. I admire you for it. Please never ever read the bible.

I have read the Bible, and I've been through a crisis of faith, and I'm only 18.

Outside of the Bible, a lot of historians don't mention Jesus because back then, nobody had a name for Christianity - it was simply known as Judaism. If you knew your history, you'd actually have known that ages ago, it's common knowledge in history circles. There were no Jews and Christians, they were one and the same until a much later date.

I appreciate that you started this thread, and I understand that you so clearly don't believe, but I'm not ashamed of my beliefs and I will not allow you to ridicule my opinions.

Go read Pascal's Wager 🙂

You don't think the bible God condoned genocide, rape or slavery etc etc?. Even Christian apologist accept that except they try to justify it. Hence that's why I suspect you've never read the bible.

I am going to let other CHristians correct you on the 2nd paragraph.

Do you think people asking about your beliefs is the same as ridiculing your opinions.

Pascal's Wager. Is that why you believe? There're over 1000 Gods out there, aren't you taking a risk by rejecting 999 of them?

Re: Are you a Sinner? Is there such thing as Sin?

“Sin” is a word that means different things to different people. For those in the Abrahamic traditions, it means one thing. For those in the eastern traditions, if they recognize the meaning of the word “sin“ at all, they define it much differently. Without going into the differences, they all basically acknowledge that human shortfalls happen. They just do. Most of us inherently understand what does  and does not constitute “moral” behavior. The “golden rule” is written in our hearts, and it's a concept that is almost universally acknowledged in all major relifgions. Why not just go with that, and forget about the rest of the nonsense?  Know what I mean?
