f you don't put a great deal of stock in the bible, then you have no Jesus. Your argument essentially refutes itself. There is almost no proof of Jesus outside the bible. I direct you to Richard Carrier and other modern historians that are doubful that Jesus even existed and here's you saying you don't even care for the bible thereby rejecting pretty much everything about Jesus. I don't get you.
Wishful thinking doesn't make it true. I want to win a million dollars in lotto doesn't mean I will.
For someone who openly admitts you don't understand much or any of it and you essentially don't even take the bible seriously, why do you dedicate your life to such a belief?

It's not that I don't take the bible seriously, I just realize it's a book, one writen by more than one person and translated into other langiuge over more than the past 2 thousand years. I believe that Jesus is more than just a story in a book, that God is far more than anything that can be explained and put into a book. Wishfull thinking is all I have, least I have not yet seen a better option. Also, my belif as it is, is not all that demanding on my life as it is. Theres not a great deal of requirments in my belif, no dificult test to study for, no yearly expense for a believers permit. Salvation to me seems a bargin and i am not one to pass up such a great deal.

Salvation and hell fire is the invention of Jesus and the NT, a book you don't care much for. You're essentially just a typical cafeteria believer.
Wishful thinking is all you have and you can't find a better option. I find that really sad you have to resort to make belief. Instead of wishful thinking, why not seek the facts and truth. "The truth shall set you free". Your reasoning is really just Santa for adults.

If fornication is a sin, then how the hell are people supposed to go forth and multiply?
get married.
most religions consider sex outside
marriage to be a sin.

Well said, Julia. A lot of people say it's not possible, especially for young people, to not sin sexually. But I'm a young person and I was in a relationship - with an athiest - for a year, and we certainly didn't sit opposite sides of the room but we didn't go all the way either.
If you lust for him, you're guilty of sin.

To me, sin is just the old word for wrong doing.
In a religious context it means breaking God's laws but I read that the word itself means 'to miss the mark'.
In that sense, everyone is a sinner because we all fall short of perfection.
From what I recall of my religious upbringing though, what Bob said is incorrect. Everyone is tempted at some stage to do something wrong, that's normal. Being tempted is not sinful. It is resisting temptation to steal, lie or whatever. & doing the 'right' thing that is virtue.
Or as my sister in law says-easy to hold the fort that's never been stormed.
