Are you a sinner?

If so, do you deserve to go to hell?

Discuss.

Faith is the operative.

Evidence is unnecessary when you have faith.

Thus heaven and hell exist for true believers of Christianity.

And not for adherents to other religions.

Therefore this thread is about Christianity, something bob would seem to be reluctant about evincing. In his OP would have been a good time to do so.

Muslims believe in  heaven, hell and sin    ............... Most Jews belive the same             ...................

How soon after the death of Jesus were these original gospels compiled? Are they still available to be read? And if not, how do we know what was actually in them?

I suggest you get yourself a copy of The Apocryphal New Testament,  it "may" answer these questions

bty elephant, "The Thomas Gospel " you refer to is contained in this book as are many other Gospels which are not in the authorised Bible

Thanks for that Lythargr. I was vaguely aware of the apocryphal gospels but dind't really know what they were. I've now done a bit of Googling but it's very hard to find a non religious website that discusses them. This is the best I've managed so far.

There still seems to be some debate on whether or not they actually precede the 'canonical' gospels, and there is a suggestion that some of the writers may have had their own particular point to prove.

I think I'll take your advice and get myself a copy.

Elephant The Copy we have here is titled The Apocryphal New Testament translated by Monatgue Rhodes James. According to hubs it is one of the better translations.

He also suggested ( if you are interested ) to take a look at some of the writings of Flavius Josephus

Thanks. I'm currently doing an online hunt.  Yours looks like a first or early edition and might be a bit out of my price range.

At the moment I'm leaning towards this one: https://www.amazon.com.au/Apocryphal-New-Testament-Collection-Translation-ebook/dp/B01H5L9E9E

Thanks Stawka. Much as I'd love the Kindle version, it was the paperback I was actually looking at. That's only around $35.00

Wow Elephant, the hardcover is a tad pricey, I would stick with a paperback copy.  Hubs bought his copy when he did his degree ( yonks ago ).

Shhhhhh dont tell bob, but this thread has sparked quite an interesting discussion at home as well
