Are you a sinner?

If so, do you deserve to go to hell?

Discuss.

How soon after the death of Jesus were these original gospels compiled? Are they still available to be read? And if not, how do we know what was actually in them?

None of them were written soon after his death.

I believe Mark was 10 when JC died, so he wouldn't have been a disciple or a reliable witness, given he didn't seem to know Palestinian geography. Mattthew and Luke plaigarised Mark's gospel.

I know there were several/many other gospels that didn't make the cut, so it would seem that the Christian authorities, at least a century after the times described, were already censoring what went into their book.

The original gospels were supposedly written between 50 and 150 years after the death of Christ. Nobody knows who wrote them. There were many more gospels, but Constantine only selected the four and ordered the destruction of the others. The unedited versions are unlikely to still exist. You could apply to the Vatican to check LOL. We don't know and will never know what was actually in them. I suspect it would be the end of Christianity if we found out. It's all about faith!

Faith is the operative.

Evidence is unnecessary when you have faith.

Thus heaven and hell exist for true believers of Christianity.

And not for adherents to other religions.

Therefore this thread is about Christianity, something bob would seem to be reluctant about evincing. In his OP would have been a good time to do so.

I've just remembered, there is one authenticated manuscript of an early gospel still in existence it is The Thomas Gospel - a manuscipt which was discovered in Egypt in 1945. It consists of 'sayings' of Jesus and presents him as a wise sage rather thn a miracle worker.

It probably wasn't written by Thomas The Apostle any more than the other gospels were really written by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, but as far a I can remember it dates to the early 2nd Century, which makes it pre Emperor Constantine.

So, once again, written well after the events it claims to be a record of.

I would think that if Jesus was such a miracle worker his actions would have been chronicled by his contemporaries, rather than decades or centuries post-demise.

Maybe he didn't have an impact in his lifetime. Maybe the miracles are/were post-demise fabrications for poiltical purposes.

Either way, getting back to the OP, there isn't a hell, and sin is in the eye of the society.

Some historians and scholars believe a number of gospels ordered to be destroyed by Constantine were saved and hidden. ALA the Dead Sea Scrolls? But there is no evidence that any of them were written by a person or persons who witnessed the life of Christ.

I suggest you get yourself a copy of The Apocryphal New Testament,  it "may" answer these questions
