Gotta love ebay help pages. Near the "sort" tab that contains best match and the other parameters click on the

"view' tab. you should see the pop up window below that I just took a scfreenshot of

These are my view search preferences so everytime I go to search distance nearest comes up as default along with my

other selections. I used to bar any thumbnails when I was on dial up

Jaws, the advantage of free posting,....if there is problem with an item you get the full price refunded.

No free posting....you do not get the postage refunded.

Incidentally, I have been an ebay buyer since December 2000, (registered on the CS since 2005).

As a buyer I have never once had a problem with a seller or item.  But I still prefer free postage just in case.

S9.8 If we determine a claim in your favour we will reimburse you the full purchase price of the item and original postage costs only.

We will not reimburse you for the postage costs you incur to return an item to the seller or another party we reasonably specify.

Freshwaterbeach (love the ID!) - If it's disputed through paypal they will give you the whole lot back regardless of whether it's free post or not. If you negotiate with the seller they will try not to have to refund postage as they have already spent that money.

Use ending soonest unless I'm looking for a pick up item and then I change it to nearest first. Which is useless because they seem to think I live 40km north of where I actually am, none the less I try in the hope that they'll fix that one day.

Jaws.....I stand corrected.   Back in the early days you didn't get the postate refunded.

I should keep myself more updated.

I use lowest price + postage.

I avoid 'free' postage and best match

Re: Assuming that most posters buy from ebay at least sometimes so question for you?

No problem Freshwaterbeach. What I was trying to get at, but probably not too successfully, was that Ebay are pushing Free Postage onto sellers as they say that that is what the buyers want and maybe they do (yourself included). Realistically though there is no such thing, the postage cost is just absorbed into the item price and Ebay gets to keep between 7 and 9% of the postage cost as fees as well. As a buyer who is also a seller I wont buy into that so I don't search that way. (I do sell that way in some categories though so that I stay competitive).

I'm sure the Op is trying to work out how best to list their items so everyone's opinion is useful - I must say I'm also suprised by how few people use best match considering we are led to believe that that is also what buyer's want.
