Watching the Australian Story on Andrew "Boy" Charlton last night it struck me how the newsreaders of the day had a much "plummier"
accent.
Almost but quite quite the "pommy" rrrrrowwnded vowels. Distinctly Orstrelian.
We've relaxed a lot since then and grown into our own accent.
But it's nice to listen to the way the old narrators and newsreaders used to speak in their formal way. God forbid they should use the accent of the broader aussie population

Granting Sunday trading to the big supermarkets killed them off. The last one in my area closed last year.

Corner stores have disappeared Stawka-shame.
-now what about the state differences of.....beer sizes..........

i guess the drive to the supermarket would add up to about the same. . the thing is to remember to buy it when i'm near the supermarket .

i think when servos changed to self serve and offered just about anything a lunch bar would may have caused their dimise too
i have to travel to get to my favs and they do change management frequently
theres one in queens park an indian took over, i go there for his cooked take'a'ways, mmm

joz, I had a servo a block away - nice and handy for those forgotten items.
They closed because no one would work there. They kept getting robbed
