The proposed fee is for daily delivery.

Getting mail delivered 3 days a week would have no fee.

3 day a week mail delivery would be adequate for most people.

All my bills are sent electronically, I communicate with friends and family electronically.

No point paying a postie to come to work for the day and they only have 2 letters to deliver or none.

well it will probably be privatised soon, which will mean less services and higher costs. Rural communities will be the first and hardest hit.

good for you am.

I personally still get all my bills delivered by mail. I find it so much easier when it comes to doing my taxes to be able to sit down with all the bills spread out everywhere.

Not many others do get mail everyday, which is why Aust Post is considering these changes.

If you get bills online you can still print them out.

First It'll be 3 days, then 2 etc.I would have thought Australia Post would have been turning over a tidy profit. They get a commission for all bills paid there, the parcel service from online sales is healthy and there's all those Andre Rieu and X Factor cds they sell...giggle.

Facts

Letter volumes have fallen by more than 25 per cent from their peak in 2008, from 4.6 billion five years ago to 3.6 billion last year, and could disappear completely within the next decade, putting the role of the iconic mail man in jeopardy.

Mr Stanhope, Australia Post chairman, added that the public perception that an increase in parcel volumes would offset the post's losses was misguided.
''People think that parcels will grow and offset our losses, well it won't,'' he said

It costs extra to have paper bills sent. Up to $2 each. That could cost a household $30+ extra per year.
