"Welfare and business groups say any move by Australia Post to charge a fee for mail delivery would disadvantage low-income earners and regional areas."

@bushies.girl wrote:I like having a 5 day a week delivery, if that make me, old fashioned, not "with it", etc etc, then so be it . For those who are happy with a 3 day delivery that's great, but WHY does everyone have to think the same way as you?
I usually get 2 deliveries a day, I would prefer 7 day deliveres myself

It's not that much different here to be honest, known our postie for about 30 years and the eParcel driver knows me by name.

"well it will probably be privatised soon, which will mean less services and higher costs. Rural communities will be the first and hardest hit."
Australia Post has had a long and difficult relationship with the Communication Workers Union.
What part will be privatised soon? Considering:
"Under the APC Act, Australia Post has the exclusive right to collect, carry and deliver letters within Australia that (subject to exceptions) weigh not more than 250 grams. These statutory monopoly services, along with the right to issue postage stamps, are termed Australia Post’s reserved services"
Oh gosh, other than the above, postal services are open to competition and do seem to be cheaper free from unionised labour interference. I just obtained a quote on a parcel to Queensland from Melbourne
"Couriers Please $37.55
Australia Post $58.35."
Perhaps the extra is to pay the postal workers enough to support their union officials credit card payments!
PS
B1G, privatisation requires both houses approval to be enacted.

Too heavy or large for a 5Kg package?
