Australian of the Year

I don't feel comfortable with the 2014 Australian of the Year, Mr. Goode. I just can't help feeling that if he could not handle the rudeness and bad manners of a 13 year old girl without crucifying her on most forms of social media to make a political point of his own, however justified is  concerning. I wonder how he will handle interjections and comments he finds offensive during his term of office.

Re: Australian of the Year

in the past few years among others we have had a journalist/business woman, a singer, an actor and over the years steve waugh, alan border and mark taylor have won.  how is this man any less deserving than them if he has done work for th indigenous and wider community.  the attitude to his winning just demonstrates how important his work is imo.

and that girl did need educating.  racism in any form is ignorant and unacceptable.

Such is life.

Re: Australian of the Year

FGS Mr Goodes was chosen because he fits in with Abbotts determination to change the constitution this year to recognise indigenous people.  So he can puff up about it. His plan was conveniently outlined in his speech.  End of story.

...though Julia Gillard wasn't chosen just because she was a women ?

Do Adam Goodes and Julia Gillard both have merit outside their gender and  race ?

What has motivated Abbott to suddenly give a toss about including the indigenous people in the constitution?

He has zero respect or tolerance for them or their story.

not so that we exclude any individual and their merits now.The 'you only won because' attitude....seems unfair imo

He's not tainting me. I do feel he's being rather hypocritical though.after the way he's behaved in throughout his political career in respect to ATSI peoples.

I didn't mean you freaki, not one bitWoman Very Happy abbott is a hypocrite and much, much worse. I doubt this will trick our indigenous brothers and sisters into thinking he is anything but what he is.
