A new report from the United Nations has revealed Australia has the greatest percentage of recreational drug users in the world.
The shocking statistic is also on the rise, according to the United Nation’s 2014 World Drug Report.
It claims Australia has the world's highest proportion of ecstasy users, ranks third for methamphetamine users, and fourth for cocaine.
Drug reform experts say there has been an increase in the demand for illicit drugs due to social and economic conditions.
A very sad record for Aussies.
That's not even counting alcohol consumption.

I'm not sure what the services are like in other states but drug and alcohol counselling are essentially non existant in my region. One drug and alcohol counsellor for our whole region, 18-25 year olds can only get assistance if they are referred by the legal system. Yes, this means they need to get arrested first 😕 I'm not aware of any services available for those under 18.
On a state level it's not much better and I heard today of a private drug counsellor who recommends people seek assitance interstate rather than in SA due to the lack of facilities here.
And it's costing the community. Lack of services ties up our hospitals where doctors are not trained to deal with drug use. Our region has seen a spike in serious criminal trespass that is linked to the rise in meth use. It's draining our scarce resources even more.

here was also a significant drop in funding for the National Drug Strategy in Health portfolio statements, but it’s important to note that this reduction is primarily related to the transfer of Indigenous AOD funding and program responsibilities to the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.
The Alcohol and Other Drugs Council of Australia (ADCA) was told late yesterday that its core funding would be halted as part of the Government's budget deficit reduction strategy.
