Autralian hospitals

I heard on TV the other day that hospitals are gearing up for the pandemic and are not seeing people for selective surgeries etc.  I was in the next room, so I was not sure if I misunderstood, and have not been able to find more about it.  Anybody heard anything?  I suppose to see a surgeon about my knee operation in couple of weeks.

I will try to call them on Monday, but it is not easy to get through in the best of times.

There has been talk of cancelling all elective surgery to free up hospital space if the pandemic gets much worse, but the last I heard it was only an option being discussed, not a definite plan at this stage.

I have seen the news most evenings this week and no mention of making it a definite plan that I have seen.

The practice of "ramping" in my opinion points to the fact that Australian hospitals are incapable of dealing with the number of patients ready presenting on a daily basis.
Nobody has done anything to deal with an influx of cases of COVID-19 because it would cost money.
There's been a total denial of the possibility of mass infection.
Quite frankly if there's a huge increase in the infection rate we're screwed
The Government is relying on people staying home off their own backs
This is going to lead to those who develop pneumonia to either die quietly at home or call an ambulance and die while being ramped.
Scott no idea is praying his bum off that another miracle happens but the truth is the so called first miracle wasn't a miracle at all and there can't be another

we are about to enter 'cold and flu' season

there is no way to avoid mass panic in our hospitals

sure, some of us will do as requested and self care, maybe to our detriment.

but just like the loo paper saga, many many will run to the nearest hospital wanting reasurance they are going to live.

I suspect there is a lot going on behind the scenes that we are not being told about. We have already seen the mass stupidity of panic buying affecting everyone who just wants to buy a roll of loo paper or some pasta to make dinner.

The Prime Minister noted in a speech a week or more ago that the Government was identifying buildings suitable for emergency containment hospitals should the pandemic become widespread. He also called on retired or " latent " medical staff to consider registering on a data base to re-enter the medical possession should the pandemic escalate. Its possible these people are being contacted privately. The government has also put in place measures to cancel all leave for all medical staff around the country and no doubt intends to increase rosters dramatically in the event of a national emergency and has also been stock piling medicines.

The drive through CV - 19 testing clinic in South Australia is located at the recently closed and decommissioned Repat hospital. Coincidence ? I don't think so. It seems pretty obvious that this facility could be cranked up as a specialist hospital to deal with COVID - 19 patients in South Australia if things get too serious. I expect similar facilities are being prepared around the country as we sleep.

Possession ? - Profession

We have also seen rolling, staged emergency responses such as the recent ban on gatherings of over 500 people being introduced. This is not some haphazard approach, but a carefully crafted, rolling strategy that our most senior health and emergency specialists have been working on and preparing for. I saw one of these experts being interviewed on the ABC ( the business I think it was ) a few nights ago and he mentioned he had hardly slept in the past few days, due to being involved in this strategic plan. Personally I think the government is handling this pretty well.

They rightly received a huge kick up the pants about their handling of the recent fires and are pulling out all stops to do the best they can with this national emergency. All governments learn on the job and this government is learning fast on how to handle unexpected national crisis and getting much better at it, as they go along.

Also where are thousands of ventilators going to magically appear.
In Italy people are dying in hospital because there's a hundred people that require a ventilator and they have twenty.
The same thing will happen here.
I'm watching Insiders right now and the Cheif medical officer and Greg Hunt are only offering words.
No proof of actual actions.
They keep stating it's only 249 cases but it takes two weeks to get sick.
It'll only go up and they keep saying if you fell well do whatever you want but your shedding the virus before you're sick

Hundreds of people will have been infected over this weekend.
Why wasn't the measure brought in Friday?
It was because Scott no idea wanted to go to the Rugby and some religious gathering.
Then Dutton is diagnosed Friday and suddenly Scott scared into not going to the Rugby.
How many people have cone from the States and are infecting people right now because the Government still claims it's only China, Italy, Iran that are the risks
