Ooak
If stored correctly home grown pumpkins can be stored for months BUT I dont know re the supermarkets ones, depends how old they are when you buy them/if they have already been in cold storage etc. etc
Could hubs make extra soup and freeze it? I dont roast mine for soup just chuck them in the boiler with some spuds n onion n a few other "bits"

yer good point they could be old when bought ( like the rest of "the fresh food" peoples fruit and veg )
we have a soup maker that is brilliant makes any kind of soup in under 1/2 hr but only enough for 2 big serves ,suits us perfectly ,but i
was wondering about the whole pumpkin idea then next time he did a roast we could roast the whole pumpkin and just freeze the bits then we could have the pumpkin soup more often ( cus its our favorite )
might try it its not like they cost a fortune and if the ovens on any way might as well risk it
if we had soup more often it would save hubby cooking so much

I know you can par boil pumpkin and freeze it Ooak, would imagine par roasting would be the same ...... loses a bit of texture if frozen but
perfect for making soup ..... Am making a batch of chicken n veggie soup atm, my kitchen smells divine lol
If you have a large freezer, could you hubs make up dbl/triple quantities of some meals, then freeze them? I do that for Winter, saves heaps of time and gas cooking it this way
on โ21-05-2016 09:48 AM
well we dont do a lot of the freezing meals thing,
if we do its usualy chilli-con-carni that handles freezing well
we like it in small serves in the freezer for putting on jacket potatoes with cheese and sour cream
but he does make quiet a few meals that do us for 2 days, so that helps

Mornin' all
You did very well with that feral pumpkin, Bushie. I'll be very interested
to see how that vine travels over winter.
I rarely make pumpkin soup, I don't like pumpkin, and his lordship has to be
'in the mood' for it, so not much point. I used to make it every afternoon for
the grandkids after school in winter.
Garden scrounging day again. Trying to see if there's anything else
out there that I might want in the future. There's escaped oregano, so
I might pot that up.
Hope Richo finds an OMG today
12 deg atm heading up to 19 later, no wind and sunny
