“Poll-driven panic has produced a revolving door prime ministership, which can’t be good for our country, and a febrile media culture has developed that rewards treachery.

II believe this is also part of the treachery of leaking information, "don't quote me, but this was said behind closed doors............."
I think Tony may have been referring to proper reporting by the Media; that is, put the name of the informant AND get the other side's response to such claims. Then report on the WHOLE story.
There has to be an agreed protocol with the media. And again, that word RESPECT pops to mind.

Mr Abbott went out with grace and dignity. I am appalled at the hate and vitriol shown on here. At least he didn't do the Rudd blubber and the "I'm proud of the fact" and then went on and on about himself.
Even Julia Gillard went with dignity and we can give her credit for that.
Tony Abbotts speech was statesmanlike and dignified.
Not like the comments on here.

Bill Shorten himself was much more generous and spoke with grace and dignity in his tributary speech about the departure of Tony Abbott.
As heard on the AJ Breakfast show this morning. I'll put it up later for those that'd like to listen to him speaking with AJ about it this morning.

Anyone know who this guy is? Is there any merit at all in what he is saying here?
Interesting what he says about how the Turnbull faction in conjunction with the UN will be doing their level best to remove Tony Abbott from office...

social media?? it's a shame for him that he couldn't just close them all down
The treachery included the leaking of information of cabinet meeting discussions that was fed to the feverish media.
apparently newscorp are concerned that they will no longer be able to source inside information- the PMO was one of the main contributors to leaks, with the Daily Telegraph being known amongst govt ministers as the 'govt gazette'. He can not just leak what he wanted leaked and complain about anyone else.
“And if there’s one piece of advice I can give to the media, it’s this – refuse to print self-serving claims, that the person making them won’t put his or her name to. Refuse to connive or dishonour, by acting as the assassin’s knife
what the public want from the media are facts, that is their job., so that means hearing the bad along with the good.... he made a similar comment to Leigh Sales on the 7.30 report. Whty don't you just concentrate on the good things.... when the press attacked Gillard anfd Rudd, they did not just publish good things, so why should abbott expect different. particularly as he used newsorp as a vehicle to get into office
