......under what "right" are people paid to exist without doing anything for their payment.?
Is it just because they exist?

"Yes, many may well be on holidays, and it may be a coincidence that they are holidaying in the same area, the same time, twice a year when we also holiday there.
But to recognise faces time and time again, over a period of years, is something that has been ingrained into me over those years of dealing with professional welfare recipients, and to see those same faces each time we holiday there, well - I make no apology for what I've said. "

Crikey you must have had some sad, lonely, boring holidays that you spend all your time remembering then committing to
memory the faceless unemployed scourge...either that or you're full of it..... do you keep notes or do you just trust your
steely minded snapshots ???

Thank you! Yes...in this area in particular, I like to think that I am!
As a matter of fact, even though I've been away from the industry for some time, I still take the occasional call from ex-workmates who are facing a tricky situation/client and are seeking a way to move forwards with them. Maybe it has something to do with the 30 years experience?
Interesting how you've admitted you aren't familiar with dole bludgers - or Qld - or casinos, but still felt the need to deride someone who is. That, in and of itself, speaks volumes about you.
However, in the vein of debate, I don't hold it against you!

Mmm. Sorry. (Hangs head in shame).
I was always brought up to value facts and the truth - and in dealing with the unemployed, it is just so easy to let emotion/feelings/hunches affect your judgement of others, so I constantly belaboured staff to become as non-judgemental as they possibly could. Sit and think the situation through - and let the facts speak for themselves.
I now see that here, especially here, that's NOT the way forward! It's becoming abundantly clear that I need to post immediately, while emotions are running high!
You're right, of course.
Never let the facts get in the way of a good story! Journalism 101.

Sad, lonely, boring?
Hardly! Plenty of sun, surf, fishing, exploring the region - but I tend to shy away from tourist traps nowadays. Been there, done that.
But thanks for the armchair expert opinion! Lucky that you're not being judgemental at all, without knowing all the facts!
And it's also sad, that no one has thought to ask if I've actually spoken to any of these regular faces - or seen them in the job network offices I've visited, to enquire about employment when I move there.
But... I guess they'd be facts, and as Poddster said, we should never let facts get in the way of our opinions!

the audacity of those unemployed bronzed youth you see hanging around unemployment offices...
I wonder what they were doing there??
great liars need to have even better memories.
"I have seen some truly amazing things in these past 30 years, not withstanding the sheer volume of unemployed who choose to remain that way!
"As a matter of fact, even though I've been away from the industry for some time,"
Prior to working with the unemployed, I had owned and lost, my own business and declaring bankruptcy - and with a non-working wife, 3 kids and a mortgage, did whatever it took to put bread on the table.
For several years we battled, with little more than potatoes and hamburger mince to eat โ as anything else was totally unaffordable. We grew our own veggies, as retail was far too expensive.
We paid for the kidsโ education, put food in their mouths, and clothed them โ and sacrificed all else to do so."
" So very true! My wife and I regularly holiday on the Gold Coast, and the preponderance of young, fit, tanned men and women, so obviously on welfare, is amazing. Yes, there is accomodation in the outlying areas at very attractive prices, (I know, as I study it each time we go, as we are debating moving there in the not-too-distant future)."

You seem to be implying something, but I can't quite work out what. Perhaps you'd be kind enough to elaborate - as it appears to me, that you're calling me a liar - but I know that couldn't the case.
Posters on C/S are far more understanding than that...aren't they?
And yes - all of those things did occur. It's quite surprising what can be packed into a 43 year working life! Were I inclined to do so, I'd be capable of demonstrating all the roles I've held over the years - but in all truth, I couldn't be bothered. Something Poddster said somewhere about casting pearls before swine, I think?
But again, what would I know? I've actually participated in life - rather than observed it from an armchair!

What a boring holiday playing spot the bludger.

Actually, it keeps us quite busy - as NZ sends all its unemployed over here!

But your hunches are all accurate assessments of people?
insight into their mannerisms, behaviours and characteristics.
