What is the Govt doing, apart from training & education intitiatives to create employment for this group?
There are 257 000 unemployed youth in Australia.
Our local TAFES have had cuts and less courses available. The unemployed youth in this area is the 2nd highest in NSW.

and all those jobs in the west, talking to someone today, who is involved in the industry, forget it if your not an experienced tradie. There is currently a shortage of experienced tradies here because the contractors have sent all their blokes west, without choice by the way. No point suggesting all the unemployed train for these trades because the training eg: apprenticeships are all but non existent.
The price of iron ore and coal are down yet QLD is going ahead with what will be one of the worlds biggest coal mines in the world but the demand is softening - that's just stupid or maybe it will treated as a greenfields site so they can halve the wages and cut conditions.

boris - I know of a tradesperson who took a job in WA in the mines $80 000 p.a. (which is not much for the trade). Lasted about 3 months.. they have to pay their own flights there and back when on FIFO? (Syd to WA). He did set off again to work on an oil rig somewhere, so I presume that was closer and at a higher salary. A very experienced tradie, not a young 'un.
Yes, I see a lot of trade jobs vacancies advt around here.

No, it is not the same.
A person will only ever be eligible for the dole for 6mths at a time. There are no jobs for these young job seekers to get in a lot of areas. The minimum waiting period is 1 month.
Students finishing at Uni or TAFE (without much if any work experience) are expected to job hunt for up to 6mths with no income (not elgible for YA if under 25, or NS 25-30). Does that happen now? No, it doesn't
There are not enough jobs for unemployed youth. The could make a stupendous effort and not get a job, and not be eligible for a dole payment for 6mths ( if they leave school and have no prior work experience)... does that happen now? No, it doesn't
The maximum waiting period is six months in duration and the minimum is one month. The maximum waiting period can be reduced by one month for each year the young person has been in full-time paid employment until the one month minimum waiting period is reached. Part-time and casual employment would be pro-rated accordingly. Job seekers will be required to provide evidence of their previous paid work to allow the department to determine the duration of the initial working period.
If you are studying you can keep your payment.

Wait and see how it pans out... not looking good... Higher education = academic qualifications, not work experience. Lots of youth with certificates... still no jobs out there for them
Where abouts are the jobs being 'created' for all these newly educated/trained youth to work in (257 000 of them in Australia).

Repeated from post above. When they have finished studying and haven't worked a much when studying ( esp high school students)
- Because we want new jobseekers, especially those leaving school and university, to actually look for work, income support will only be provided once a six month period of job hunting has been completed.

am3 '$5.4m of that ($300 000 x 18?) goes to the job brokers.' oh yes, funny no one has mentioned them in the budget. The cost of running the job network or whatever its called nowdays is ludicrous and yet there has been no proof they're anymore effective than the old CES system. They basically get paid to send people on useless courses that aren't going to get them a job & to be ring masters for Centrelink recipients, making sure they jump through all the right hoops.
And no job broker can get jobs for people that are non existant...actually, yes they can....or at least try to. Some of them got into some trouble for claiming funds for jobs found for people that did not exist, tsk tsk! (and thats just the ones who've been caught)

what gets me is a lot of young people have taken a gap year or two and have been working hard, saving up for uni courses (which the fees for have NOW been increased by fiberals/coalition budget announcement, thanks guys*wow) ......say they do their chosen uni course for say 4 years.....then cannot get a job, they will have to wait 4 or 5 months for any support monies under this proposed scheme. These kids are not bludgers. I know many of them and they are trying really hard. Some are working at chain stores, some are trolley boys/girls some at fast food outlets(last choice as pay is carp compared to other chains)-though these are the hardest places to get jobs because 457ers are main competition. You have to 'know' someone to get a youngun a job. Someone with a business or a friend who knows someone etc. There are NO jobs. There are NO traineeships or apprenticeships to cater for our young .....because......our government does NOT SUPPORT progressive manufacturing in this country. They do not want us to make or add value to anything. So, there are no jobs. End of story.

Hello everyone, My first post on Community spirit ( so be nice. ) although I do read the threads often. I would probably be regarded as leaning to the right politically and are happy to see eligability for social security payments tightened. BUT the new announcements on preventing teenagers from accesing benefits for six months is JUST PLAIN WRONG ! . I know a number of young people who have recently left school and often ask them how they and thier friends are finding the job market. Its incredibly difficult for young people to find any work at all, let alone jobs in their chosen fields. Many work part time in fast food joints for a year or two but even these jobs are harder to find once a teenager reaches 18 and their hours are usually cut back. University is not suited to everyone and after four extra years of study, many find they are entering a hostile employment market with a useless bit of paper that is of little assistance. Young adults have the same rights and needs as other members of society to recieve the safety net of social security payments. It scares me that our government is leaving the young to litterally fend for themeselves. HOW ARE THEY MEANT TO EAT AND PAY FOR EVEN BASIC ACCOMODATION ? So today we are completely abandoning the young members of society. Who will it be tommorow ?............. Will it be the old, the disabled OR YOU ??????????

yes WA has been blown up in the media to be some kind of jobs mecca, anyone turn up and they will be employed. It's not the case at all and $80.000 is pretty low. There is so much unemployment about that employers can be (and are) extremely picky, most of the jobs are taken by people already working and I see the budget has cut the apprenticeship program.
