Bushfires

Stay safe all who reside in the areas affected by the fires.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-02-09/live-victoria-bushfires/5247966

A number of properties in Victoria have been lost as the state battles through its most severe fire threat since Black Saturday in 2009.

Officials say they have major concerns for areas in Melbourne's outskirts including Craigieburn, Warrandyte and Gisborne where the fast-moving fires are in built-up areas.

Emergency warnings are in place for areas including East Gippsland and the La Trobe Valley.

Temperatures reached 40 degrees Celsius in some regions, with a gusty wind change moving across the state during the day.

Meanwhile in South Australia, a large blaze continues to burn out of control at Bangor in the Southern Flinders Ranges where an emergency warning remains in place.

Does anyone know if the fires are in the area of Korumburra, Bena, Loch or Poowong. ??

grandmoon, everything is alright in this area. One thing for sure, we live in one of the safest places here.

No floods, no cyclones, hardly ever a bushfire, and that would quickly be put out as we don't have much on trees around here.

Every now and then we get a little shaken by earth tremours, or from strong gale force winds, but in general we can call ourself lucky, despite all the grizzling about the weather here.

I do hope and pray that those in fire riddled areas are OK, as we have family in several of those places and start to panic if we can't get in touch.

Re: Bushfires

An evacuation order has just been issued somewhere around Kilmore, so unfortunately that fire is still in full swing. I think there's been a wind change that's caused them some problems. We lived up that way once, it must be the windiest place in Vic. We used to joke about the infamous "Kilmore Gap"

Scary. We've had a few local grass fires, several watch and act warnings.

Re: Bushfires

I hope Romsey is spared, the fire is headed straight towards it. all that area between Wallan and Romsey is pretty much inaccessible, very hilly, dry country with deep ravines. Only a couple of roads go through there, so no wonder they're having trouble putting it out.

Re: Bushfires

it's not looking good ATM Blue.

lots of historic buildings in that town. the one we owned once upon a tme was built in 1862 which is very early for Victoria. I't' s on the other side of town towards Lancefield. so it may be OK. Also lots of livestock in that area as well as large housing estates now in the township of  Romsey itself.
