I've read that some genetic experts think the male gender is on the road to extinction. This is because the male Y chromosome is slowly shrinking and will eventually fade away.
I hope the same sex marriage issue is resolved before then. Gay will become the new straight. Maybe the then Government will have to call a plebiscite to seek the women's opinions on whether they should be allowed to marry each other. Wouldn't that be interesting!
Footnote: The experts think men won't be needed to reproduce long before they become extinct. So the procreation argument will be irrelevant.
If the Y chromosome is shrinking, I would be worried about environmental factors. There's also been an absolute avalanche of anaphylaxis & other allergies with young children. The turning point must have been mid '90s as it hit the schools about 2000.
Something is wrong-either in our food or environment or maybe a combination.
But as for reproduction. I live in an area where over 50% of the residents were born overseas. Many of those foreign residents are highly religious. They tend to be either highly religious christians(not catholic) or muslims. I worked in a school & we found that both those groups tended to have large families. I doubt it is a religious mandate or anything but it definitely is their cultural preference. Many of those families had at least 4 children and 5-7 was not uncommon.
Amongst Australian born or not so religious, it tended to be more 2 children families.
My conclusion is that within a couple of generations (as long as the Y chromosome is still around) the mood will swing around & society may become more conservative rather than less, as these groups will start to have a majority in society.
