Cadbury pull out of Hobart...

...so is it too late to re-route that waste of funds to SPC as should have been done in the first place?

That's the point though. Makes no difference to the taste of the product. I really don't care if it means the company gets a bigger market.

you're right.  it makes no difference to the

taste but it makes a difference to those of us

who oppose ritual slaughter - halal/kosher/

whatever.

Not in this case, its about whether the geletin comes from cows or pigs. In that respect, makes no difference to me which one.

yes, in this case as well.

As you can imagine, when you read ‘gelatine’ on an ingredient list of a food label, it’s impossible to know whether it’s made from cows (acceptable) or pigs (not acceptable); and if from cows, whether the cow has been slaughtered in the correct (halal) manner.

It matters to some. It doesn't bother me. Whether cows are slaughtered the Halal way or not, they are still slaughtered. Don't like it, try vegetarianism. Avoiding Australian companies, or even foreign owned Australian companies who employ Australians just hurts us. The only difference you're making with your stance is that you're costing Australian jobs.

no thanks.  i have no intention of becoming

a vegetarian.  i do no support unstunned slaughter.

once i know there are no legal exemptions  for this

practice in australia  and ALL halal slaughter involves

stunning then i will have no other objection to halal.

I'm pretty sure you don't understand the process of slaughtering animals at all. Stunning is a fairly recent thing. They used to just be shot. That was it.

Re: Cadbury pull out of Hobart...

I am rather happy to know that chocolate has no gelatin in it, from cows, pigs or sheep................ It turns my stomach at the thought of hooves skin and bones................. in my jelly or chocolate.  Woman Embarassed

Yes, I used to give it no thought but since I discovered it..... no way!

I don't mind what companies do, within the law, to sell their products, if they can widen their market by certifying food halal, kosher, heart tick, gluten free, etc. good for them.

The cost is not dependant on those things, demand is what sets the price.

It does. So do a lot of other products. Gelatin has always been made this way. Queasy? Choose. comfort or principles. And don't preach to others. Choose your life path, not others.

and NOW we have laws that say animals must

be stunned before being slaughtered (except those

religious exemptions) a few other things have changed -

for the better - i think it may have something to do with

becoming more civilised?

But all the other gelatine you eat is made of that stuff.
So you are likely to eat it.

Okay.  Maybe lose the "it's about me" BS? Read the posts instead of reacting.

Or not. Your choice.

But who's more civilized? Wasn't that long ago that animals were shot, not stunned then shot. I personally have no argument with animals being stunned before they get distressed realising they're going to die.
