Okay, somehow I've managed to hijack not one, but two threads yappin' about our new camels.
So rather than continue stomping all over everyone else's threads, thought it may be easier to just put the piccys up here.
Introducing Gera and Alice:
Gera is at the front, Alice at the back. Fingers crossed everyone, that Alice is pregnant and in about nine months we will have either a Camelia (thanks Tas) or a Humprey (thanks Icy)!

They are fascinating creatures, I'm a bit scared of them though. Love the name Humphrey for a male.

Thanks everyone, for your welcome to our new additions ๐
When can I expect my bag of camel down?:^O
Bump, whenever you'd like to come and pluck the camels, you are welcome - I ain't game!
Hawk, they're six and seven years old, full size camels. I'm a rotten photographer and yes, was slightly elevated. Believe me, when you're standing right beside them with their heads towering above you, they're vewy, vewy, big!
Debra, let me tell you a secret: I'm a bit scared of them too :^O
And my husband has tasked me with training them... gulp. Think I might cheat and see if I can get an expert in!

:^O how does one go about buying a camel? (no, not wanting to, just curious)

:^O lol good luck with the training Monsters, we had a huge horse once that I was a bit scared of, she was an ex trotter, but I managed with her. Somehow I think camels are a bit different to that. I'd opt for getting an expert in too, at least to show you the ropes, so to speak

Camel down?
You mean camel dung?
For fertilising purposes?
If not, what would you use camel down for?

Az, it's not actually that easy - we've been looking for camels for a good six months or more now.
We got this pair off a gumtree ad, but prior to that I had googled my little fingers off and emailed/phoned a heap of breeders, none who had any available.
I have read of some people buying them from saleyard auctions in places like Roma.
There are a few more being advertised on gumtree, but they're either really expensive or males. If we add any more we would want a couple of breeding females.

I think the camels tend to be a lot more stubborn than most horses and also I think (at least in my case) it's a little bit psychological as well - I know and understand horses and even cattle, but camels are so.... foreign.

Do people spin camel down?

They are absolutely gorgeous, love their names too. Reminds me of a joke I heard a long time ago that I remembered when you said you would call a little boy camel Humphrey.
What do you call a camel with no humps?
Hump-Free ..... :^O

Wow they are great.
I won a competition last year for naming a camel and my prize was a trip to Alice Springs for 2 for 4 days plus accommodation and car hire.
I had the most amazing time and I also managed to ride a camel which was called Ruby but for my ride I changed it to the name that I won with.
