Can I charge a car battery......

Or should I disconnect it and take it out before I put it on the charger?

Re: Can I charge a car battery......

A few (cheaper) jump packs that I have seen are next to useless in that the battery capacity is insufficient, also a diesel engine requires additional cranking time combined with an increased power requirement that many smaller packs (or tired batteries) can not provide

I should disconnect my car battery when I go away on holidays – true or false?
FALSE. Disconnecting your battery can adversely affect your modern car’s  sensitiveon board computer systems, which can cause problems with your engine, steering, transmission and security system. When you reconnect the battery after your holiday it can also even prevent your car from being started. The best way to maintain your battery’s charge on extended holidays is to use a high quality maintenance charger. These chargers can be left connected for indefinite periods, ensuring your car battery will be fully charged when you return from your holiday.

I have built a few chargers in my time, and charged hundreds of batteries, so assuming you have a good working charger, just connect it in-situ for a few hours. Then disconnect charger before starting. 10-20 mins if you are in a hurry should put enough juice in the battery.

The 5 mins running time when jump-starting is so that sufficient charge is put in your battery to assist the start, because most jump leads can not provide the current required to start a diesel.

Car was in the back yard. Dad has total care which is their highest cover, dont know if that makes a difference. I know they charge a hefty extra fee if they have to rescue you if you've gone offroad.

RACQ now do at home repairs (get you going so to speak) and have been for the last couple years or so, no doubt RACV do the same now.

They will come and sort out problems even in your driveway, and have always done that
