Hi Cat I was wondering if you could recommend a good introductory book on Buddhism? Something easy to read/interesting that explains the main concepts etc.? Thanks
Hi Jo
The branch of Buddhism I belong to is called the Soka Gakkai. Most of us read The Buddha In Daily Life by Richard Causton. The first few chapters are easy to read and the last few chapters describes the practice but the middle chapters can be a bit difficult to fully grasp only because the concept of Buddhism is very 'quantum physics'.
You can also visit the Soka Gakkai website. It has a wealth of information and video's.

If you visit the sgi australia website there is a book shop where you can order books.
If you have any questions just let me know 🙂

Kylie your belly photo's are beautiful. I love the LOVE pic with your belly button as the O. It's very cute! Has the baby turned downwards yet?
The pics are lovely, Im so glad I had them done! There are a lot more to come, but that was a 'sneak peak'!
Baby hasnt turned and I dont think it will at this point.
Im seeing Dr tomorrow to discuss my options, and if he believes that it WILL BE a c/s, then he should maybe book a date before Xmas rather than letting me go into laour 'whenever'... over the Xmas/ NYE period with skeleton staff, and then need an emergency c/s.

Will be thinking of you tomorrow Kylie, let us know what the doctor says :-x
Jo - just had a look at what books are available through the online bookshop (sgi au). There is a book called "The Buddha In Your Mirror". I haven't read it but apparently it a bestseller.

Jo
This book seems to have great reviews. Here's one of them:
The Buddha in Your Mirror is a quick overview of the basic tenets of Nichiren Buddhism. Much food for thought was packed into this slender volume. I actually began taking notes as I read. I am very new to the concepts of Buddhist study and I appreciate anything on the topic targeted to the layman or the uninitiated.
Although I do not conduct a formal 'practice' at this point, I am thoroughly enjoying my study of Buddhist thought. It gives me a fresh and more positive perspective. It reminds me to focus on my own behavior and thoughts rather than the actions of others and situations that are outside of my control. As a natural born cynic and sarcasm junkie, Buddhism is the first 'ism' that has persuaded me to rewire my thinking to a more positive degree.
Perhaps readers who are already well versed in Buddhism would find this particular book too elementary. Others may not be able to suspend their disbelief over the constant encouragement to begin chanting nam myoho renge kyo. But readers with an open mind about the myriad benefits of Buddhist ideas (contemplation, constructive thought, serenity and happiness and the ability of each one of us to attain that) will gain inspiration.
This book took me less than a week to read. I am in the process of finishing my notes and am eager to move on to my next Buddhist read. Thus, The Buddha in Your Mirror did succeed in furthering my interest in this discipline.
It sounds like a good introductory book. 🙂

Mioux, Im excited too for your DD's return! A wonderful lively house full of chatter & happiness at Christmas time- how fabulous! ♥
Oh it will be lively that's for sure! And lots of hugs and laughter. :-x
The cats will be happy too. Pene, because she misses male's. Thai because he adores Sally and Beau because he will actually cuddle Sally on her lap but only if she is wearing a special pair of my old trackpants that I don't fit into now. She always puts them on for Beau.
he's a special boy our Beau.

See cat, this is why I told you at the start to never give up because this time last year you were facing complete devistation and this time this year your facing utter excitement and joy.
Life is strange and we never know what's ahead around the corner. You're excitement is almost palpable.
I also can't wait to hear what that baby bump produces. It's all happening and I can't thankyou all enough for sharing your good fortune with me on this thread. I'm blessed.
