Hi fabulous OK'ers :-x

It makes me so happy to see everyone doing well and moving forwards.

I'm ok, I got confused about dates and realised the results for all the tests I've had were due back Friday but I don't have an appointment to see my GP until this Monday. I rang the nurse on Friday for my test results but she wouldn't give them to me! She kept saying "the doctor wants to speak to you".

But I'm so happy tonight because Master Kitty finally brought his girlfriend over to meet me when I got home from work and they have just left and she is GORGEOUS! Stunningly beautiful, funny, kind and very smart and the cats adore her .. even Beau! I gave her a big hug when they left. :-x

Higs and hugs to Mrs Damo Braff 0/, Kylie, Freddie and the spunk hunk Mr Freddie and YCDI :-x

I got my results today. Diabetes and Rheumatoid Arthritis.

I've chosen to treat the diabetes with diet before meds. I suspected I did have diabetes so I started a 'diet' 6 days ago and I've lost 2 kgs already. Exercise may be difficult until I get the RA under control, have to see a specialist for that next month.

At least I have an answer now and I can take control and start to feel better. ๐Ÿ˜„

You can't keep an OK'er down cos she'll keep getting up!

Hi YCDI :-x

I kind of knew I may get diabetes late in life. Doctors thought I may have had gestational diabetes when pregnant 30 years ago, I had high blood sugar levels 5 years ago but got it down through diet and exercise but these last couple of years I turned to sweet food for comfort and stacked on 15 kgs (eekk) and was on cortisone for the last 2 years for another auto-immune illness. Cortisone can push you over the line if you are prone to diabetes.

I can either follow the doctors advice re: diet or follow the latest research on diabetes.

Doctors advice: eat lots of fruit, wholegrains, vege's and low fat.

The problem is most fruit contains natural sugars that convert into glucose. Wholegrains? Again, high carbs which also convert into glucose which send your blood sugar levels spiking. Vege's? Yes, very good but only those that grow above the ground. Vege's like potato convert into starches in the body so they are out. Rice - way too much carbs. If you are going to go low carbs then you need some good fats in your diet. Fats and carbs are a bad combination but low carbs and good fats are perfect for bringing your glucose levels down.

Any thing labeled "low fat" usually has a high sugar content to make it taste better.

So I'm following a low carb/high good fat diet. Good fats like avocado's, cold pressed olive oil, pure butter, Greek yogurt, eggs, salads, cheese for protein, meat and fish, blueberries (excellent fruit and very low carbs and sugar)...

I've lost 2kg already, following this diet for 6 days. I know weight loss in the first week is always impressive and it will slow down but I'm aiming for 1kg a week.

Tonights dinner is a green salad i.e lettuce mix, cucumber, avocado, cheese and Greek Yogurt mixed with cucumber, vinegar and a little dash of lemon juice, cherry tomatoes. For dessert blueberries and Greek Yogurt.

:^O  Food glorious food ๐Ÿ˜‰

I'm seeing this news as a blessing. I'm so lucky to have an illness I can reverse and have control over.

PS I hope you are well YCDI. Thank you for sending your good wishes โ™ฅโ™ฅโ™ฅ

PS sorry for the scroller!

Higs and Hugs to all.

Sending healing vibes, Ms Mioux, hope all goes well for you. :-x:-x:-x

Off to Adelaide for 2 weeks today, had already booked before FIL passed away, hope Himself will be ok. Daughter might be able to spend some time here with him, depending where she is sent for uni placement, we are crossing fingers that it will be down here.

Take care all. :-x
