I recently came across an old videotape from 2003, thought I'd see what was on it - a bunch of old Entertainment Tonight shows I used to tape to watch when I came home from work, It was interesting to see the type of stars we celebrated as a culture back then and what has happened to their careers since.

For example, one episode was almost totally devoted to Julia Roberts and the $25 million she was being paid for Mona Lisa Smile. The interest in her was extraordinary. I had almost forgotten about her. Another episode focused on Paris Hilton and her new blockbuster TV show, A Simple Life. TMZ don't even report on her now and yet they'll interview Kim Kardashian's gardener. At the other end of the spectrum, there was a segment on Robert Downey Jnr's battle with drugs and prison and yet today he has been voted the most powerful and bankable star in Hollywood.

It got me to thinking where today's stars will be in 10 years time. Who do you think will be forgotten, succumb to drugs, insanity, go bankrupt or die? Are their outcasts today you think will make a comeback and others who will gain more credibility?

In the 1970's, when "The Sonny and Cher show" was all the rage, I'm sure there were few people, myself included, who thought Cher would win an Oscar for Best Actress and Sonny would become a mayor. I guess in the entertainment industry, anything is possible.

I also wouldnt put Michael Richards in the same boat as Mel Gibson, Gibson is as nutty as Cruise and a hypocritcal zealot, just not a nice person. Richards I thought got heckled and lashed out but I didnt think it was a rant like Gibsons, maybe I remember it wrong

Because she was having a plantation wedding, a Gone With The Wind theme, and she wanted to dress up some blacks as house slaves. They were going to wear authentic reproductions of red uniforms worn back then, so WHAT?

I've re-watched the Richards rant - I agree with you, he was heckled and it was spontaneous. Mel Gibson's was more sustained and over a longer period. Also, one of his private conversations to Oxo-ono GivmeyerhouseBack was made public and this came closer to the real person. Richards rant was in public and self-destructive so I think you are right.  Winona Ryder remembers meeting Gibson at a party in the 90's where he called her an "oven dodger" because she was Jewish. She was speechless and yet nobody would believe her when she told them he was a racist.

I wonder if he will find success in the future as a director again - because I believe his acting career is over.

oh okay, Im with ya re the plantation wedding.

Im not surprised he said that to Ryder, hes a pig. I knew someone who knew him from Nida and it was common knowledge he played up on his [long suffering] wife. she put up with his bs forever and he ended up dumping her for that russian? chicky babe, think they have a kid together.

Havent heard anything from in a while, hopefully it is the last time we hear from him. lol.

I agree, I can't stand to look at him nowadays. I believe when we're older we all get the face we deserve. He was spectacular looking when he was younger but he looks a mess now. There was even a recording by the writer Joe Esterhaz's son, where he is screaming about his face and how he's aged. Selfish pig - God gave him looks, fame, fortune and respect and the minute one of them disappeared, he had a tantrum like a spoilt child, I was never a fan of many of his films anyway so I don't believe his demise has been a great loss to film history.

Jethro, you seem familiar.

Yes, the constant use of the word 'mock' is a giveaway.

Either that or TRBAG has put on an apprentice.

What I'd really like someone to do is tell me if l am a female or male. I get called both sometimes, its confusing not to mention it drives my partner crazy.
