I recently came across an old videotape from 2003, thought I'd see what was on it - a bunch of old Entertainment Tonight shows I used to tape to watch when I came home from work, It was interesting to see the type of stars we celebrated as a culture back then and what has happened to their careers since.

For example, one episode was almost totally devoted to Julia Roberts and the $25 million she was being paid for Mona Lisa Smile. The interest in her was extraordinary. I had almost forgotten about her. Another episode focused on Paris Hilton and her new blockbuster TV show, A Simple Life. TMZ don't even report on her now and yet they'll interview Kim Kardashian's gardener. At the other end of the spectrum, there was a segment on Robert Downey Jnr's battle with drugs and prison and yet today he has been voted the most powerful and bankable star in Hollywood.

It got me to thinking where today's stars will be in 10 years time. Who do you think will be forgotten, succumb to drugs, insanity, go bankrupt or die? Are their outcasts today you think will make a comeback and others who will gain more credibility?

In the 1970's, when "The Sonny and Cher show" was all the rage, I'm sure there were few people, myself included, who thought Cher would win an Oscar for Best Actress and Sonny would become a mayor. I guess in the entertainment industry, anything is possible.

All celebrities are self-obsessed decadents who should be rehabilitated and put to some honest work.

Why? I, along with billions of people, derive great pleasure from movies and music and many of these artists whom are celebrated, deserve to be.

Yes he is, although I have to say I prefer him in his old independent films, like when he played Chaplin, than action films. I didn't like Iron Man at all.

Oh God, yes. I saw an interview with Rebel Wilson on Conan, she was hosting some awards show and when into their trailer to introduce herself. They didn't know who she was and when she asked for a photo they got up off the couch REALLY slowly. That says it all. Frankly, I think they're all gay, although I don't believe they will be coming out in ten years time (The Backstreet Boys haven't, lol). All their songs are derivative of earlier, better music from boys bands of the 80's and 90's,  They're also very short like Justin Bieber. Short guys don't age well, look at Mickey Rooney. It's cute when you're 16 but by one's 30's, short guys tend to get stocky and it's not a good look. While I don't think the One Direction boys are attractive in the slightest, their appeal in ten years will be long over and if you still don't believe me, I have two words for you: Jason Donovan.

And he wasn't even short!

On the subjec of Rebel Wilson, I saw adverts on TV for her new show, "Super Fun Night" proclaiming it "The new US smash hit is here!" I researched this and found that the reviews weren't good and more importantly, the ratings were on average around 5 or 6 million, which is terrible for America.

Likewise, "Hostage" was also advertised as a "US hit" and their ratings also average around 5 or 6 million. This amazes me as one show I used to love, Medium, was cancelled halfway through it's seventh season, with 14 more episodes to go, because it was rating around 7-8 million viewers. Medium and Super Fun Night aired on the same network. I think executives get bored with long running shows and like to kill them off.

They did this with Murder She Wrote which after 11/12 seasons was still in the top 10. They then moved the show from Sunday night to Thursday night and in the last season it fell to number 52 in the ratings.

I think networks want to always appear fresh, they don't understand that viewers grow with their networks and it's not only the young who watch TV.
