Charlotte Dawson's Legacy

I hope that in the future if not today open discussion on Depression and Mental Illness can carry on...

Thoughts and best wishes to all who loved and cared for and about you .

“Charlotte was a beautiful person physically, but she also had a beautiful soul. She was kind, loving and generous,” Vicky said.

“She was a kind, loving and generous person and worked tirelessly for the causes she believed in.

Personally I don't think I do myself...unless I just post basic/general  information....not personal experiences.

I don't need the added carp

i think you are a good choice to start it, you are knowledgeable about it, don't have any agenda and are well grounded, but don't do it at any expense to your well being, walk away if you feel you need to.

I'm totally uncomfortable knowing the attitude some posters have. This thread has been hard work enough for me.I didn't want it locked though which would send out a message imo that Mental Illness shouldn't be discussed publicly ....where it should and it needs to be .... but I think posters need to feel safe to do so.

What about a group ?

i don't see where you get the impression from the openness on this thread that people think it shouldn't be discussed - the dissension is whether charlotte dawson should have a law regarding cyberbullying named after her or not.

your post #46

i agree with that, but it is STILL going to happen, or people in a sensitive state are going to see things in a negative way, that is part of mental illness, so isn't it a good approach to teach coping skills and resilience?

People need to know alternative methods to help themselves not fall victim.

I for one don't need your method of teaching other posters what you refer to as coping skills and resillience.

Nor do I want to be referred to as a martyr because my children have Mental Illness and I post that they do.

i don't have a method of teaching anyone anything, i am no expert, but i do stand by my statement that people need to learn to cope and be resilient because there is always going to be things that upset people

Pepe, I don't think you understand.  People with depression do cope and cope brilliantlu day after day after day.  They manage their homes, their children, their mate and their jobs, but they do it with a black cloud over their heads the whole time.

Over and over again their feet feel they are encased in lead boots, they hurt from exhaustion and still they carry on.  They then have their down days, just like anyone else, but they still cope.

Those that don't and finally commit suicide are really and truly at the end of their tethers, beyond all normal things and there is nowhere left to turn.

Coping is the rule of the bluddy game and they do it.  They cover their pain and hide their fears and keep going.  Any number of people here on this forum would agree with me.

They are resiliant beyond the norm BUT they do hurt and fall down when not believed in and are critised and abused even more than normal people without these problems.

I'm not deriding what you are saying, but I do know very few people understand just how much resilience and effort is put into an ordinary day for people with severe depression.

It takes guts to talk about such things

no guts at all is needed to have a go at people who do
