Christian and Muslim protesters gathered outside KIIS FM's studios

Christian and Muslim protesters gathered outside KIIS FM's studios in North Ryde, Sydney on Monday demanding that radio presenter Kyle Sandilands be fired.

Police were called to intervene as dozens prayed in the street and called for Kyle's sacking over offensive comments he made about the Virgin Mary last week.

The shock jock had already apologised for the segment on The Kyle & Jackie O Show in which he called Mary a 'liar' who got knocked up 'behind a camel shed', but the religious protesters were not satisfied with his response.

'We live in a country that has double standards because in the commercial code of conduct clause 214 states that a radio station cannot offend [or] discriminate against religion, sex, gender,' Georgie Clark, who led the protest, told The Daily Telegraph.

'Kyle from 106.5 KIIS FM went and discriminated against not only one religion but two.

Re: Christian and Muslim protesters gathered outside KIIS FM's studios

I have considered Kyle Sandilands to be a big mouth and a fool for quite some time. But he did apologise. Rather than accept his apology and forgive him like the good book suggests, the protesters are calling for him to be sacked. Not long ago Israel Folau (arguably) discriminated against gay people by making hate statements in saying they will all be going to hell. Rather than vilify him, many religious people defended him and even gave him money. It seems to me that there may be double standards here.

The Government is currently reviewing religious freedom and a draft Bill is in place. Is anybody else worried about extending religious freedom given the inconsistent and IMO questionable behaviour of some religious activists and groups? With Rights come Responsibilities and one would think that people of strong religious beliefs would not abuse those rights. But my gut is telling me otherwise. Perhaps it is because a lot of outspoken people who profess to be avid Christians do not behave in very Christianlike ways to me!

Sandilands says something offensive to the beliefs of Catholics and Muslims.

Catholics and Muslims want him sacked.

Folau is sacked for saying that Catholics and Muslims (among others) will go to hell**.

Catholics and Muslims want him reinstated.

Go figure.

Re: Christian and Muslim protesters gathered outside KIIS FM's studios

I believe in the right to free speech, but that doesn't mean total freedom to say or do as you like.

If I were in front of a classroom of kids, I would probably lose my job if I said any of those things that Kyle said. If I tried to promote my own political or sexual views, I would expect to be in trouble. I would expect parents to protest, I would expect the prin to call me in. I would expect that because I'm not completely stupid.

I know that with any job, there come responsibilities as well as rights.

I don't believe everyone has to follow any particular religion and we have a right to question religious practices or beliefs where they impinge on the rest of society.

But Kyle wasn't doing that. He is in a responsible position, he is broadcasting over the air where thousands of people can hear his message and media can report it for the rest of us who missed it first time round. He wasn't at home in his living room, having a private chat or joke with friends.

And he knew that. Kyle isn't completely stupid either. I believe he said it quite deliberately for the controversy & to make more of a name for himself. Plus i think he is probably big headed.

He only apologised because he was ordered to (which he knew would happen).

I'm wondering if he knew he might upset any muslims. Bet he thought it was only Christians and they are fair game.

This is all about him keeping up his image, having a high profile, making lots of money.

joztamps, I can't find where Folau said that Catholics and  Muslims would go to hell. And he wasn't saked for saying Catholics and  Muslims would go to hell.

BTW: Homosexual singer Elton John was banned from entering egypt for saying disgusting lies about Jesus Christ. He offended Muslims and Christians. I wonder if he is Kyle's fav singer?

From your link: In a February issue of Parade magazine, the 63-year-old singer said that Jesus was a “super-intelligent gay man.”

Why is that disgusting and how do you know it's a lie?
