There is a cute little tourist railway that runs between Strahan and Queenstown, It used to be a commerccial line bringing copper down to Strahan to be loaded onto the ships - the little steam crane that did the loading still stand on the wharf - though alas it is neglected and in slowly rusting away. We did the rail trip a few years ago and it was a real nostalgia trip for Mr Elephant who remembers both the crane and the railway from his days in the Merchant Navy.

Just back from Tassie. Tourist steam train in Queenstown not working - maintenance - wanted to go on it. Tourist train at Don - went on that. Tourist train at Ida Bay - went on
that. Great little tourist trips. But that's all they've got

Strahan & Roseberry are really lovely from what I can remember She-ele but I'd give Queenstown a miss, spooky place that.
That makes sense that they would've had a railline for transporting copper to a port I wonder if that's where Punch's ancestor worked?

so that railline is now a tourist train imastawka?

The Queenstown Railway was one of the things OH was really looking forward to riding.
It was closed for maintenance when we were there. That upset a lot of tourists because
they didn't advise that fact on their website. Let's face it, you don't want to go on that road
all the way from Hobart and then find out it's not open!

oh that's a shame. that would've been really disappointing for him. Hope you get to go back there another time and try again
