Comments for the nature thread.

I really like the garden posted by Kopenhagen. My new backyard is a blank slate I would love to find the time to make something like that. It reminds me of a Japanese garden. If I cound get the tree laying on its side in Dsk's pic...it'd be great!

The Moeraki boulders posted by Am*3...bit of a mystery those things. Millions of years ago the oceans were red due to a high iron content. Stromatolites (sort of the early version of coral reefs) formed all over the planet producing oxygen creating a rust in the ocean which formed the iron deposites we dig up today and changed it's colour to what it is now.

Mentioned here at 16:37 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xsn3wpVAcjk

It's possible those boulders are Stromatolites. Maybe your drier hotter weather caused the smoother shape than elsewhere.

Re: Comments for the nature thread.

Thanks Pimpy.  I can't remember now whether I have already used that one in a challenge.  It's not a new one.  I delete my photos out of the gallery now and then so I can't check if I have already used one.  I'll stop doing that.

Amazing photos by lots of people this week 🙂

Re: Comments for the nature thread.

I need that bird bath. It's gorgeous.

It's rather bleak weather here atm, grey and overcast, not very nice for taking nature photos. Hopefully there'll be some sunshine over the weekend.

I really like PH's tree photos too. I keep going back to the hanging bark tree. It's lovely.  I thinktrees are nearly my favouritest thing. And rocks. And flowers. And birds .....

Re: Comments for the nature thread.

That bird bath is very nice.

Lionrose - I don't miss the volcanoes. Mt Ruapehu was threatening to blow when we lived in Palm Nth..a fair distance away but we could see it in the distance from our backyard.
When we lived in Waiouru were a lot lot closer to it, lots of minor earthquakes and grumblings. This Sth Islander isn't used to volcanoes.

Re: Comments for the nature thread.

yup, I think so.

Next week we may have an added feature that another member is going to help with, just for a bit of fun Smiley Happy

I've been thinking about some earlier comments about the thread.  It was noted that the winning entry was often from the first few pages, and some people felt their pics were being swamped.  I wonder if it would be fairer to announce the new theme on the monday evening, but not actually start the thread intul wednesday evening. Would it give people time to find their photos, or would the delay cause a loss of interest.

If anyone has suggestions, but don't want to put them here, you can message me.
