Erice, I am sure Westergaard regrets it as he has had several attempts on his life including having a guy standing with an axe in his house near his small child. Police shot the perp within minutes as the cartoonist has a permanent guard.
Thanks for the thought Jean. My friends n rellies rarely go to town and most of the problems I think will always occur in Copenhagen.
Completely agree with your point Gleee, but I think responsibility lies more with the holder of the pen if they are going to use the pen rather than the sword. Especially as they have known of the issues being highly sensitive and are more likely the more intelligent.

Yes, It's a dilemma that's for sure. I can only imagine how intrusive it would be to have to have armoured guards due to threats on your life because of your occupation but what is he supposed to do? Change occupations, modify his drawings to suit some hysterical nutjobs?
It's a tough question, which is probably the reason for staging the event.

Grrrrrrrrr, in a neutral country too.
Granted, stupid of both Danish and Swedish cartoonists to feel a need to draw those cartoons.
Totally unnecessary.
I am more annoyed at the cartoonists whom know better than the not so intelligent extremists.
You are annoyed at the cartoonists because they are not following the quran? We are not all muslims!
If the muslims are offended they should go BACK to Saudi Arabia!
The cartoonists should continue drawing cartoons!

RIP the innocent person shot.
But, hold on, this was for a cartoon published in 2007.
Its not like Vilks was drawing and published the cartoon as if a provocation after the incident in Paris at the Charlie Hedbo offices.

Sure, but that is not the perfect environment we find ourselves in.
We as highly intelligent human beings should and are able to bend to keep the peace until the offended become more educated.
And I still strongly believe it should have been the more knowledgable cartoonists/editors that showed restraint.

They wont be more educated! The quran is clear on unbelievers and on anyone who mocks mohammed, it is death. Muslims believe mohammed is the perfect example of mankind and the qurans commands from allah to be carried out, this is what they do.
Cartoonists and editors don't need to show restraint, here in the west we have free speech and freedom of expression. The government need show restraint by booting them out of here. Muslims hate unbelievers, they hate our food, they hate our country, they hate bikini wearing women, they hate Christians, Jews and all other religions and aetheists.
Where have you been? Have you seen all the atrocities carried out around the world in the name of mohammed? Ohh I see, now you are going to tell me they were all coincidences and random murders.... and nothing to do with islam? right?

Generally I keep an open mind and remain neutral on most issues until I have ALL the information, or most of it.

As I don't read arabic, I am told by Muslims I know, the interpretations and rewrites of various books or parts of the Quran can be taken out of context. The more the Muslims have been living amongst us, they see and begin to educate their relatives and peers on how civilised the general people are in the Western society and I truly believe the Muslim extreme practises will begin to be watered down. I have tudored Muslim children whom are now going to university and their outlook is also that is it such few fanatics around the globe desperately clinging to dying ways.

Not all Muslims are as you say, but granted, fanatical Muslims whom won't accept the ways of the land and break the lands laws should be deported. I agree a harder line in so many aspects of government needs to happen. It's needs to be nipped in the bud.
Where have you been? Have you seen all the atrocities carried out around the world in the name of mohammed? Ohh I see, now you are going to tell me they were all coincidences and random murders.... and nothing to do with islam? right?
No, of course not. I would have thought your analytical skills would not have you see me in this light?
I am perhaps not as versed on this as you are in this field, however I am well aware the atrocities of which we speak are to do with an extreme belief stemming from religion. But lets not say there is one way of interpreting Islam.
I have seen there are very good Muslims and there are not so good Muslims.
Call me a dreamer, naive and someone that sees the good in humans, perhaps blind at times, yet the good always seem to win over evil, eventually.

Well, that's the point though, isn't it? We tell ourselves we are highly intelligent. And then the collective "we" all act like life is like facebook/twitter etc. Most personalize any criticism instead of stopping and thinking about it. My way or the highway comes to mind.
I don't like YOUR highway, I want my own. And that's the one I will continue to walk.
