The 2 people had just got back from UK and bought the Virus with them, they were in lock down but let out early (BIG MISTAKE) to see a sick relative, drove from Auckland to Wellington spreading it,
Now everone on the plane and any one they have had contact with will have to be tested,
A listen on how easy it could all come back ๐

No, it doesn't mean either of those things.
What happened is they allowed two people who flew in from UK to travel from Auckland to Wellington on compassionate grounds. The two women drove directly to Wellington and didn't stop on the way, and once they got there went directly to the house containing only one other person and had no contact with anyone else so risk to others is minimal.
The problem was that they allowed them to leave Auckland before they had completed their 14 days quarantine and without testing them first. It was a stuff up, and acknowledged as such.

Everyone on the plane would be in mandatory 14 days quarantine and (in NZ although not in Australia) would be tested before leaving quarantine so no problem there. As for anyone they had contact with, from what I heard, they did not stop on the way and were not in contact with anyone apart from the person they were going to see. Fingers crossed that is correct.

And Victoria had 21 new cases in 24 hours; 6 of them community transmission.
The 2 weeks is generally observed - if more than 2 weeks will have serious ramifications as we have entered winter time ( although fortunately is mild weather his year and flu has also been mitigated )
