They're supposedly the richest country on the planet. If all the other First World nations can do it, so can they.

The US social-economic system which is accepted questionably by it's citizens is grossly biased towards trade and commerce within a free market demand determined economy at the expense of the altruistic welfare of individuals. Is based upon the premise that if one works hard and is smart one will materially succeed, hence minimal welfare support required nor desirable.. As for the others......law of the jungle within the framework of the law and personal morals and ethics, however where there is life there is hope - and hope is not denied, nor the gainful efforts of those regardless of lowly status and disadvantageous circumstances.

The upshot is that that their system will not allow sustained artificial propping up of trade and commerce as is a contradiction of their economic machine and national mindset - so will tend to relax mitigation regulations before some other countries who are more welfare support centric

We can trace apart from 2 people where the people with the Virus got it from.

It may seem easier because we only have 5 mil people, it is the only way

Yes, strict measures are the the best way to go; Sweden is now in worse position than their neighbors, who had much more severe restrictions.  I worry we are reopening too soon.

I was surprised that Boris Johnson is seemingly so lax, I would have thought that  his close call with the virus might have pulled him up. I'm not sure of the restrictions in the UK.... must look them up.

It is quite simple; some governments only care about the economy.   So what if 1% of those who get it die?  A long as the rich are making money, all is well.  Of course, the small businesses are doing it tough, many will not survive, but if they think that reopening, and ending up with something like the projected 60 - 70% of population sick and up to 3% of those affected dying, is going to be good for their business ....  Every country that relaxed the restrictions ended up with new clusters.

In America some large businesses are forcing people to work, and having them cut off benefits if they are too scared to come to work.  some also forbid wearing of mask.  When you have 15% unemployment and no benefits, there will always be enough of desperate starving people who will agree to work under whatever conditions.

It will be interesting to see how America vote later this year

Q+A: Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews issues coronavirus warning, Gladys Berejiklian battles over Ruby Princess

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-05-12/state-premiers-talk-coronavirus-on-q+a-daniel-andrews/1223624...

poor old gladys, when put on the spot by a question from a non NSW australian she attacks!

the question was a fair and honest question many non NSW australians want an answer to, why would anyone listen to her or her govt when they have proven to be pretty bad at handling this virus.

she takes no responsibility for the fallout from the slack decision to allow that ships nearly 3,000 passengers to disembark and travel off to the 4 corners of the country taking the virus with them

she should have resigned!

Getting to the point in the USA where so many have had a touch of the virus and so have antibodies - so when admitted to hospital for any condition , like shark attack leading to being deceased , they get tested and show positive so is written up as " coronavirus related"

and get on their covid stats - the real pathology ripping through their society is Covid-19, influenza , general pneumonia

Formula is total death from severe respiratory conditions = (published covid deaths /2) x 3  , a little over 100,000 , a bad year with no end in sight in some regions although summer time might offer a reprieve

Not true.  It is suspected that C19 death are much higher everywhere; studies looking at death rates over several past years show that there is a huge gap between the normal rate and the number attributed to corona virus.  And now we have children getting seriously sick weeks after exposure.  Bet there will be people dying from heart attacks or kidney failure weeks later, even if the original infection did not seem to harm them; maybe they had no idea they were infected.

No, she hasn't. What an  ill-informed and naive statement.

0  new cases reported yesterday. in NSW

Suggest you stay with your own  state where you may have better info.

She has done an excellent job in managing the virus in Australia's largest state except for the Ruby Princess fiasco, where I believe her judgement was flawed in not kicking out the Minister for Health.   Someone's head should have rolled .... not hers..... but that of the Minister she appointed to do his job.   As she didn't she has to put up with the questions that have no answers...... yet..

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian says states must lift travel restrictions as coronavirus cases stay low

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-05-14/nsw-premier-wants-coronavirus-interstate-travel-ban-scrapped/...

i really feel sorry that NSW is lumbered with such a pathetic excuse for a leader.

its really no surprise that NSW is coronovirus screwup central under her leadership.

why the people of NSW are not calling for her to resign is a mystery!

'lets lift those travel bans so she can send more of her virus carriers to other states to make her state look less like a basket case run by a moron'

if you cant beat the virus spread it around so your not the one sticking out like a sore toe

i say lets increase the bans and stop anyone from NSW traveling anywhere.

and ban this woman from doing media so she cant spread her daft ideas
