Cost of an MRI for dogs?

Does anyone know roughly what an MRI costs for a dog in Victoria?  My little Chi is suspected to have a tumour

behind the eye and is to have an MRI shortly.  I'm just trying to get an idea of what costs i might be up for -  of course

there will be the MRI then it has to be taken from there.

I've heard they can cost roughly from $1000 to $2000, when I know humans pay a lot less, why I don't know. . Money I can hardly t afford but

I love my Danny  so will find it one way or the other.    . 

Anyway, it has to be done, so any info would be very welcome just so I can get an idea of what I'm up for. .

Sorry, Boris hasn't had an MRI (I don't think) he has been to a specialist joint 3 times - North Ryde where he goes they give you an itemised estimate before admission and you have to pay a third straight away - he did have a tiny camera down his throat into his tummy though. Hope all goes well for Danny.

and there was a finance company that offered interest free (for a bit) loans for pet care, think they still do.

Sorry to hear about your pooch 😞  I have no idea about MRI's in Vic, fortunately my pooches have never had to have one.

But I do know that RSPCA offers pet insurance, I think it can be paid monthly and is desogned to take care of your vet expenses.

only for things after insuring - not known conditions/problems or any other way they can get out of paying.

I've used CareCredit (a credit card issued specifically to cover medical expenses--animal and human) to pay for veterinary care.. I'm in the US but I just googled and they have CareCredit Australia, too. You can probably apply for it online.

As for the cost of an MRI, it was recommended I have one for my cat to rule out a possible brain tumor. In the US it was going to be $2100. I almost passed out when I was told. He never did get it though, because I had to put him down shorty after due to a massive stroke.

Sorry, i do not have an answer for you either.  But why not ask the vet who recommended it ?   I found that many procedures are lot cheaper at Sandown Vet Clinic in Springvale (at the greyhound race track), but i do not know if they have MRI.  It does not hurt to call and ask.  That is if you are not too far from Melbourne.

in any case shop around.  There can be huge differences.  For instance when I was sending dog to Europe and he needed rabies shot, I had quotes from about $85 (Sandown) to somebody who wanted $275!!! LOL   Similarly with x-rays and desexing.

Brighton, please ask the vet. When he tells you, tell him that you simply can't afford to pay that.  I've seen it happen over and over at our vet's place and they really want to help pet owners.

I have heard of fees being brought down from $2,000 to $600. Just cry a bit.

That you will do anything for your pet.

But if you don't have that kind of money, you can't

possibly say ok 'go ahead'

I don't understand why this vet didn't tell you the cost.

You are entitled to shop around
