Counterfeit items...

1923 Australian Halfpenny Coin (Low mintage - Rare)

The above is an example of a seemingly straightforward listing for a coin worth $1,500 plus.

Why have so many bidders cancelled their bids?

Simple answer;this coin is a 20 cent counterfeit.

How the bidders who cancelled found out item is fake I don't know.

Long gone are the days when members could warn others of fakes--what a shame.

Back to real footy where Essendon are leading my Pies.:-(

Re: Counterfeit items...

That is interesting JJ......I come from the era of the halfpenny, and I looked at the coin and thought there was nothing wrong with it.

I like American cars too Joz........my first car was a 1962 pontiac..........I really loved that car.

a mate has a small collection of ponti's, hes finished restoring one - a late 60s model pontiac super sport 2 door, beautiful thing, im so jealous:-D

those bidders must have simply cancelled after realizing its a fake

have you reported it to ebay as the listing does give an impression that its genuine?

if not..whoever wins it, its really their problem

 Reported for all its uselessness.

A Canadian bidder paid $10,000 about 5 years ago:-(

I don't know the final outcome of this case.
