I thought 'crowdfunding' was just the terminology.

Crowdfunding is the practice of funding a project or venture by raising monetary contributions from a large number of people, typically via the internet.

Do you have a specific organisation to name?  Idiegogo, ozcrowd, pozble?

I have no knowledge of any.  I thought if you wanted to 'crowdfund' an idea,

you could do it yourself.

Re: Crowdfunding

While at a meeting yesterday we were discusing a major funding project and some was talking about crowdfunding as a way of raising the large sum we need.  Most of those present had not heard of it and after I googled it I am still none the wiser. I was hoping someone here would know something about it.

Re: Crowdfunding

As I said, I have no kowledge but a quick google of 'crowdfunding australia'

gives a lot of companies.  The all seem to give you a free start-up but then

charge a percentage (some 5%) of what you raise.

The Tax Office is also looking at GST payable apparently

Maybe someone else here has more knowledge.   Good luck

Re: Crowdfunding

How Successful is Crowd Funding?
50% of the time, fund targets are not reached but this is mainly because the project/cause is not promoted or driven hard enough. If clubs are going to use Crowd Funding to raise funds they need to spend time to make their fundraising page interesting and drive the promotion using tools like social media.

Very few clubs have tried crowd funding. It is not a magic giving tree, it will take time, effort and constant communication to get traction. When it does, amazing things can and do happen.

Re: Crowdfunding

Thanks for the links.  It doesn't look like something that is suitable for our organisation which is a charity, as we have grown so much lately we now need to extent and are trying to raise enough to add a larger room to the building we are using.

There are a couple on the committe who are looking for the quick and easy way of raising the money with little or no effort on their part.

While the rest of us are looking at the sausage sizzles, garage sales, trivia nights etc.

Re: Crowdfunding

Crowdfunding will only work if someone is on top of it.

Sausage sizzles are always good, and fete season is upon us.

Have you asked the local council if they will chip in for the extension?

Sometimes they will, for a charity.

This might be useful, there are very many options for fund raising, I have contributed to some special needs ones but the name escapes me atm

Re: Crowdfunding

We don't have a council here in Canberra.  One of the ladies is checking to see what grants are available that we can apply for.  Another is going to contact the local and federal Pollies.  While the rest of us are starting to arrange some fund raisers.
