The search in the chest of drawers became a walk down memory lane.
There I was looking for lounging apparel for the day, and I came upon .....petticoats. Not pure silk, but silken like. Who wears petticoats nowadays?
I can remember mum making rope petticoats for my aunt. I can remember "airing" dresses instead of washing them because a petticoat had been next to the skin and petties were easier to rinse out along with the hosiery worn that day.
I remember when I felt guilty for letting the slip show below the hemline of my frock. But then I can remember mum attaching broderie anglais "frill" to the lower hem of my party dress when I was about 10. For the first time, I felt like a princess.
Have you kept tangible memories within your cupboards? Inadvertently or intentionally?
Let's keep the subject appropriate, if you please.

I wear them, I have a few sheer dresses. I have kept all sorts of little things that belonged to my Mum and my Nan. I have some little weights that were put in hems so your dress doesn't blow up in the wind (my Nans), keys and some embroidery (not done) with the instructions and all the threads.

My most hated item was the suspender belt. Uncomfortable because the attachments would did into your thigh. Also remember using a small coin when the little rubber doodah was lost.

I have kept two blouses that my great-grandmother made when I was in my early teens. She was a dressmaker by trade and never used patterns, relying on measurements only. By the time she sewed these two particular items, her eyesight was failing so the results are a little bit - umm- interesting.

Everything in my house has tangible memories.
I just haven't the heart to throw anything out or give away.
Hence, my house looks like Steptoe's
Worse still, an 'arold lives within
When I leave this mortal coil they're gunna have one almighty job!

yes i have a bit of that happening, every now and then i am nagged (and nagged and nagged....) to throw some stuff out. It's really annoying because eventually i will give in and tell Mr Boris to do it himself and just don't tell/show me - which of course he then insists on showing me every single thing and if i say "yes, toss it" he will then ask me "are you sure"? sigh.

I prefer stockings & suspenders to tights, the most annoying things now are the so called "stay ups", I have brought so many of them, all but 1 pair fall down a little with every step, so you soon have two little black silk puddles around your ankles, horrible. They make good plant ties though.

Someone posted the Modess belt on Facebook recently. I wasn't sorry to stop wearing it...
The belt High school teacher would wear one under the tightest ever white pants, you could see it, I had to ask Mum what it was.
I was horrified.
