Earlier today an earthquake hit the Philippines near the city of Cebu. Many of our dedicated Customer Support employees are based in this region, and our thoughts are with all of them and their families as they deal with this disaster.
The office building where our employees are based has been evacuated. However, we are pleased that no employees are believed to have been injured or harmed.
As a result of this disaster, our phone, chat, and email customer support operations will be temporarily unavailable. We are working to get support in place and ask for your understanding and patience while we work through this.
You can still visit our Online Customer Support portal for any queries or help you may need.
Thanks for your understanding
The eBay team

I also feel sorry for the damage and injury caused to people in the Philippines by that earthquake.

@azureline** wrote:I hope they are ok too....... why the 2 threads and one is pinned?
There is only one thread - but when they float the thread to the top, a copy is made. One thread appears at the top kind of like when we used to have pinned threads, the other thread stays in the place it would normally be according to posting order.
This is also why when you write in one thread that it appears in the other, one is just a copy of the original.
Once they unfloat it, it will revert back to one thread.
and if they delete one, both will go.

I sense a locking of this thread soon

I hope so, it is a thread about a disaster, a disaster which hs affected people's lives, possibly had casualties.
Those eBay employees are members of our commubnity and some of the comments here are a bit disrespectful to them.
They are real human beings and their lives are quite possibly in turmoil.

Surely some of you could refrain from posting on this thread! It was a polite message explaining what had happened due to an earthquake. People there have been injured, lost loved ones.
Compassion would have been nice.

While I feel for all the people affected by the disaster....... whether ebay employeEs or not...
( I suspect there are tad more that are in the affected are that are not ebay employess BTW)
The original post by Joanna tied the loss of any live help ( the only help available are the canned responses to frequently asked
questions) facilities to millions of members who collectively process millions of $$ worth of sales daily to a natural disaster.
So it has been 48 hours plus since the disaster
How hard would it be for EBAY to temporarily deviate the 1800 help number from the original destination to the ebay au
office in Sydney????
How hard would it be to temporarily deviate the live help email/livechat link to the same office until normal service from OS
can be resumed?
For mine the only decision ebayau has made is not to sign off on the overtime to be paid for same temporary service to be
supplied locally while trying to build a 'poor us please bear with us until normal (and extremely cost efficent) help returns to our
BUSINESS
.... sentiment in the ebay community.....
If it was your business what would you do??
