DDU / klarry

DDU can I ask you about your chooks? You do have chooks don't you?
Roughly what sort of cage do you have i.e. wooden? How many chooks & what/how much do you feed them? I searched chook houses on ebay, do you suggest a good one?

Klarry what is needed to fox proof a chook house? We were thinking wire underneath and perhaps sleepers too? Are snakes & rats a problem?

Any information would be good ๐Ÿ™‚

http://www.northerndailyleader.com.au/news/local/news/general/fox-attacks-3yearold-boy/2118078.aspx
THE parents of a three-year-old boy watched in horror as a fox knocked their son to the ground and dragged him away after it got a hold of his leg.
The father of young Tom Harvey had to use a block of wood to fend off the fox, which remained detemined and โ€œwould not back offโ€.

David Harvey, of Sunnyside, near Tenterfield, said he and his wife, Jane, and family were at home watching a fox from their kitchen window on Monday night when their two older children, Sarah, 5, and Tom, 3, ran out to see the animal at closer range.

โ€œWe looked out the window and Tom was being dragged by this fox,โ€ Mr Harvey said.

โ€œI followed straight out, but the fox wouldnโ€™t back off โ€“ he wanted Tom.

โ€œI got hold of Tom and was trying to keep the fox away from him. He was a mess.

"The fox had bitten his leg to bring him down and grabbed onto his shoulder. He got a couple of punctures on both sides of his shoulder.โ€

I saw that. That is a real worry as clearly they are becoming bold. I also think it's another reason why we need to cull them all. I'm going to buy a fox trap when I get home and start removing the ones around where I am.

There are plenty around. I mostly see them as road kill, regularly

This chicken now grown up has thin egg shells and the eggs just keep breaking. I give them shell grit any suggestions?
