DDU / klarry

DDU can I ask you about your chooks? You do have chooks don't you?
Roughly what sort of cage do you have i.e. wooden? How many chooks & what/how much do you feed them? I searched chook houses on ebay, do you suggest a good one?

Klarry what is needed to fox proof a chook house? We were thinking wire underneath and perhaps sleepers too? Are snakes & rats a problem?

Any information would be good ๐Ÿ™‚

Not sure how practical this would be, but I love this 'chook shed'

Poor Sunday Roast, did the fox get her in the night time or the day DDU? I feel I have to check on them every 20 minutes during the day when they're out.

Overnight, although at dawn the fox was still cleaning up the carcasses ... if you have space, a couple of Alpacas will keep the foxes away.

Re: DDU / klarry

I got my two chookies today ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

I picked up the (flat packed) chicken coop on Wednesday, assembled it on Friday Morning.
(I'm a woman with a power tool ]:) )

Now I have two little black australorp hens, about 13 weeks old.
They are still small but will grow over the next weeks to their 'real' size.

Should have eggs started in 4-6 weeks. They are sooo cute :-x

They should be thrilled with the two apple cores, and tomato and cucumber trimmings they will get for breakfast. ๐Ÿ˜„

One of my cats saw them and had twitchy tail syndrome, the other cat hasn't seen them yet.
I locked them into the nesting box just before dark.

I'm hoping the cats' presence will deter mice from trying to get into the grain feeder.

Re: DDU / klarry

That's an unusual coop www ๐Ÿ™‚

Nice post blackcatt. annie that's fantastic ๐Ÿ™‚

And great job putting it together yourself! I got told to hang the feeder off the ground so the mice can't get to it. We are laying more wire today in the hope that I can keep them out during the day.

Ibis the mammoth muscovy drake would have killed the hens. The crazy chicken/duck man has taken him. He looks after ducks with twisted beaks and ducks that have pulled all their feathers out (which mine would have done without a female). He takes them to schools to show the kids, has other ducks of the same breed. Believe me I saw a randy muscovy drake at his place, they are huge and I saw what they are capable of, this thing was trying to jump every feathered thing, even other males.

Re: DDU / klarry

Not as much as my husband.

Hey I thought the little white chick would cry and all she did was go out & eat some grass. And for the first time she perched with the others at night instead of hang on the ground with the duck. And the duck just got there and ate bread as well.

I did cry but I've had to seperate horses before that appeared friends and I had to seperate a colt from his mum

Re: DDU / klarry

Thanks ibis yeah I really, really did lol but he's got other muscovy's and other ducks of all sorts. If it was a female then maybe but mammoth muscovys are huge. He was dirtying up the water trying to swim in it all the time. He needed meat meal, he has a pond in his enclosure when he's big enough to defend himself and be let in with the other ducks etc etc
