DIET SHAKES & SNACKS ETC - what do you think

Over 12 months I have tried every diet shake and all the supplements advertised on TV as an experiment. I have included a gym regime of 1 hour every second day and also included a weight session 2 times a week. I have toned and lost weight.
I stopped the diet supplements 4 months ago and kept up the exact same gym regime however I supplemented the diet drinks etc with my own recipe.
The result is - the recipe I use is easier, much much cheaper, tastes heaps better and I have more energy than when I used the diet drinks etc advertised on TV.
This has proven to me that you don't need the diet drinks, supplements etc advertised, a little preparation which takes the same time to mix as the shakes in the packets is better, CHEAPER and you know exactly what you are using. I have my high protein, very low carb drink in the morning, I am never hungry until 1 or 2 in the afternoon and then only want something light.
The diet industry makes millions from people looking for an easy fix, I can honestly say from my experience doing it yourself is better, cheaper and even with a busy family is easier. I have also made a huge mix for 5 people in my family and we all have a drink with breakfast. Healthy for the whole family and a good start to the day. Imagine making up 4 or 5 of the prepared shakes everyday, would cost a fortune.

Keep it nice, I might cry if you write anything upsetting (like not)

I see a dietician who has recommend xylitol as a sugar substitute. It comes in a powdered form.

If you normally have 2 teaspoons of sugar in a drink you only need 1 of the xylitol.

The most important thing about dieting is state of mind.

Although I think making your own healthy shakes is a good idea I think a strict regime of low fat, low energy, no carb shakes, are the way if you want to lose the weight quickly.

Also, it's as cheap as chips to buy as I pointed out about $1.11 a meal from Chemist Warehouse.

The mere fact that some are suggesting honey, molasses or treacle is a bad idea if you are serious about losing the weight.

This is not a diet I would recommend to anybody who is not serious about weight loss & behavioural eating patterns. It's a very strict diet, no cheating, no fats or milk, no sweets & fresh fruit in moderation. Def no alcohol.

I think making your own shakes is a good idea as long as you keep it below 160 calories per drink then it sounds good to me.

Starving your body of high energy food makes it turn on the fat stores you have already in your body then the weight starts to go.

Happy dieting everybody & good luck.

Over the long term VLCD's slow down your metabolism.  This results in putting the weight back on with extra weight if you increase calories sudenly to maintain.  You will then have a harder time losing the weight again, at least until you have slowly managed to increase your metabolism once more.

I have managed to increase my metabolism with exercise and eating properly over the last few years and now have finally started to lose weight again by eating 1400 calories a day with 30 minutes of moderate exercise.  If I was exercising at a higher intensity I would increase my calories.

I'm now losing from 1 to 1.5 kilo's every week.  Make the diet low in fat and sugar.  Clean eating, so cutting out processed food and take away.  Learning how to cook meals without using a lot of fat and oil.  Making sure I get enough omega 3 and all the other nutrients my body needs to be healthy.  Because this further ensures weightloss.  Especially a healthy liver, which metabolises our energy and makes the fat stores.

I don't even feel like I'm dieting, don't feel like I'm deprived of good food either, actually quite the opposite.

My plan today was

Breakfast : Qld yoghurt with mango puree

Lunch:  Burgen soy bread with lean ham (60g), low fat cheese, and tomato.. spread used a tsp of Omega 3

Dinner: Veal 150g crumbed in herbs, chia seeds and parmeson cheese, olive oil, coleslaw made with low fat egg mayo and lime juice, corn on the cobb and brocolinni.

250 ml of pure fruit juice

Watermelon

I don't spend a lot of money on groceries either and it means my kids are eating healthy and being taught good habits.

Beleive me I have tried everything, I ruined my life with dieting and low calorie diets.  This I have found now is the only way I can sustain anything long term and have energy.
