Dan Delivers Another Blow To Victorian Taxpayers

The revelation of Daniel Andrews' $3.3 billion blowout on his "signature" West Gate Tunnel project is just another blow to the "punch-drunk electors and taxpayers" of Victoria, according to Sky News host Peta Credlin.

"You may remember that when Daniel Andrews was first elected, he tore up contracts signed by the former Napthine Liberal government to build the East West Link," Ms Credlin said.

"It didn't matter that construction was already underway, Andrews killed it off because he had a pre-election deal with the Greens and as a result, taxpayers were forced to pay out a billion dollars in compensation, for contract breach.

"A billion dollars not to build a new, much needed road.

"And in place of the cancelled East-West link, the Andrews government accepted a near-substitute proposal from Transurban, to build the West Gate Tunnel instead.

"It was never the best option, but it's turning out to be just another one of the Andrews government disasters inflicted on long-suffering Victorians.

"Now it's a project that's stalled before it's barely started, with a near $7 billion dollar original cost, now looking like well over $10 billion, and no completion date.

"It's hard to credit, isn't it. Just another blow to the punch-drunk electors and taxpayers of Victoria."

But Victorians think he's the best thing since sliced bread!

"Best thing since sliced bread" - Yes, there are many fools that would actually think that. In the left vs right way of thinking, it's easy to go with polarization because it's easier. One doesn't have to think.

From someone who still would support Labour over the Liberals , I have to say that Andrews is about the worst thing in politics. Perhaps not a real party supporter like the UK's Tony Bliar . Just the other day I heard another comparison with a certain Cambodian dictator . Perhaps a watered down version.  Well, there appear to be some similarites, but maybe on a lesser level .  Some may wonder is there could actually be an eventual year zero goal. I don't know but I can understand the concern expressed.

Victoria's wonderful multicultural aspect supported by the many small businesses will be a thing of the past.

Personally I just think Dan Andrews is plain dangerous. He has adopted many of the practices of extreme historical political leaders and religious cults and many of his followers seem to exhibit the same total, unquestioning  mindless devotion that only comes from brain washing. If you want to see it in action take a look at the Istandwithdan twitter account.

Unquestioning, mind numbing devotion and brain washing mirror image, self congratulatory  views at their worst. Where did these people leave their brains when they got out bed this morning?

Were you surprised though? I think everyone knew it would be. We'll be lucky if it is only one extra week, but fingers crossed.

You said it chameleon54 and you said it all in a great summary.

I had a look. Thank goodness there are a few that can think for themselves but there are too many that don't think. Well, the posts that think this man intends to do good are beyond sickening.  Perhaps posts made by some paid helpers. The rest are by people who have no idea of the horror that awaits them.

Most politicians are following commands by someone in the background.  An eventually "mostly morally healed" former PM called Malcolm summed it up well when he said that many people that enter into a career in the unions or politics spend their career paying back those who gave them a step up. Take that sinister aspect and combine it with megalomania and we do have that danger you suggest.

Re: Dan Delivers Another Blow To Victorian Taxpayers

I'm a Victorian, I don't think Dan is the best thing since sliced bread, but nor do I see him as evil.

I think many politicians are just trying to do the best in the circumstances but are restricted to some extent by party policies, the wishes of the electorate and so on.

I'd put Dan in that category.

He certainly isn't any super human. He proved that last year. He committed the sin of pride, if we can put it that way, in his response to the covid crisis last year, refusing help, not admitting to serious errors. Very disappointing, feet of clay there.

In his actions later on, I think he got his act together a little better and he did try to lead us through the lockdown and the results were good, we were pretty well covid free by November.

Even people we may label as 'bad' or ineffective can still have good and valid ideas. I think it was the Vic government that floated the idea of quarantine and I think that was a top idea that has helped our country stay safer.

Unfortunately we also need to be in this current lockdown. Once vaccination numbers reach about 70-80% though, I think governments will need to open up more with no lockdowns and just say-unvaccinated, take your chances out there. That doesn't mean abandoning all safety measures eg I would only allow overseas arrivals in if they had had the vaccine or were willing to have it and I would still have them go into quarantine.

Gladys in NSW is also being demonised by some because her state is in the grip of a covid outbreak but she is another who I feel is doing her best. Again, some of her strategies haven't worked and maybe there are things she could be doing differently, but it doesn't make someone evil just because we may not agree with all their ideas.

Dan has his faults and I am not saying he is the ideal leader, but I think at his core, he is probably a decent human being, at least.

PS I was one who was disappointed that the original east west link did not go ahead. If i had to pick a party that is trouble with a capital T though, it would be the Greens. I think some of their ideas are downright dangerous.
