Dead Penguins - I never knew this!

Did you ever wonder why there are no dead penguins on the ice in Antarctica ?
Where do they go?

Wonder no more ! ! !
It is a known fact that the penguin is a very ritualistic bird which lives an extremely ordered and complex life. The penguin is very committed to its family and will mate for life, as well as maintain a form of compassionate contact with its offspring throughout its life.

If a penguin is found dead on the ice surface, other members of the family and social circle have been known to dig holes in the ice, using their vestigial wings and beaks, until the hole is deep enough for the dead bird to be rolled into, and buried.

The male penguins then gather in a circle around the fresh grave and sing:

"Freeze a jolly good fellow."
"Freeze a jolly good fellow."

You really didn't believe that I know anything about penguins, did you?

Re: Dead Penguins - I never knew this!

Ah, the story about the  penguins reminds me of a legend handed down over centuries by my ancestors in the Welsh hill tribes.  A young lad named Llewellyn was of a courting age, a marrying stage, and his mother was on at him morning, noon and night to "go find yourself a good woman, boyo".

So, Llewellyn considered the village maidens and found two he liked equally.  He courted Brenda in the mornings, and Sue in the evenings.  During the rest of the day, he wandered the lonely mountains my himself.  He told people that he was writing poetry or painting, but they never heard a poem or saw a painting, so they wondered ... yes, they wondered.

Well, the lasses got together and they shared their stories, and one morning, they confronted young Llewellyn, and told him that he had to make his mind up between them.  It was to be one or the other, look you, but not both.  Indecent it was to be leading two young ladies on so.

Llewellyn had a beautiful singing voice and he answered them now in song.

Leave me Brenda

Leave me Sue

Leave me to my hills

For it's Dolly that I love

Not either one of you.

As time went on and the legend of Llewellyn and Dolly spread widely, a songwriter noticed the potential for a hit single.  You know the rest 😉

Pretty good, thanks. It's 7:22 pm Sunday and I'm relaxing so I'll be fresh for getting back the grind tomorrow.

Penguin gifs are hard to come by.

"my pic has disappeared it was just a pic of some penguins hanging out and about that's all."

Maybe  because the original picture (if it was this one) was over 3Mb in data size, this converted one is 32Kb
