Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-04-20/disability-pensioners-may-be-reassessed-kevin-andrews/5400598

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

to monman

This is pretty definitive....AND the source is supplied in my previous post.

There are a number of cases where Luxury Car Tax does not apply on vehicle purchases over  $60,316:

  • if the vehicle was sold or imported prior to 1st July 2000
  • if the car is supplied over two years following the local build date or, if imported, the vehicle compliance date.
  • if it is an emergency vehicle (eg ambulance etc)
  • if it is not GST-free and is specially fitted out for transporting disabled people seated in wheelchairs
  • if it is a campervan or motor home
  • if it is a commercial vehicle that is not designed for the principal purpose of carrying passengers.
  • if the vehicle is supplied by private sale

If you can't get your head around the the resulting figure of '0' from a mathematical calculation then I suggest you go back to school monman.

This present govt is proposing to abolish tariffs on future sales of luxury cars/vehicles.

The majority that this will benefit will be those with a spare $60,316.00 to spend on a luxury vehicle.

People like you I figure......you can import/buy more luxury and collector edition mini's monman.*La-la-LaaaaaaSmiley LOL

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

"This was published on April 10, 2014 BEFORE the Budget was released???"   So what?, it still applies over many future years , things will actually deteriorate more if the opposition has its way.

" How is Joe Hockey going to achieve this?"  I presume the question is rhetorical?

No?, OK

AUSTRALIA will need massive budget savings of about $90 billion if it is to stabilise its government debt by 2030, International Monetary Fund estimates show.

Notice the time line, then the content, then appreciate that the gimme gimme ( from both sides) and political opportunism will ensure that the budget savings suggested by the IMF will not eventuate.

Australia has a  low debt : GDP ratio,  but many do not appreciate our deficit is high,  and growing.

During the pre budget,  a couple of times on TV I heard the reference to  "ask not what your country can do for you , ask  what you can do for your country"  a wise (and overlooked) comment that in both TV instances was attributed to JFK (1961)

I suspect JFK  plagiarised, or did the equivalent of  a C&P without  thinking (happens here),  because in 1884 Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr said in a speech:

"We pause to become conscious of our national life and to rejoice in it, to recall what our country has done for each of us, and to ask ourselves what we can do for the country in return."

Significance, I do not always accept C&P's at face value or definitive statements without checking them, I also often wonder whether the author has bothered to "proof" read their C&P's or research the source.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

OK,  so far we have had 2 unverified comments:
"Goodness once the rich had to pay a luxury tax of 33% on their BMWs. Now it’s 10%"
"So, the luxury tax on cars for the wealthy in Australia and those that have the fortune to be able to afford such a luxury was 33%...... has been decreased 52%....to about 17.5%"

Posting a list of long established exceptions (under both governments)  that have applied to the LCT over many years is just pointless waffle. You have  declared that suddenly (2nd time)  the LCT has decreased from 33% to "about" 17.5%.    Where does the "about" stem from?. So produce the information. You could start with the ATO  LCT information:    https://www.ato.gov.au/business/luxury-car-tax/

For some reason you highlight: "if the vehicle is supplied by private sale".  Well duh,  when did you pay tax of any sort when you purchased or sold a car privately in Australia.  Hint,  it is taken as fact that the vehicle will have originally be subject to whatever tax implications apply,  and obviously the price will reflect that,  also:

You are required to pay LCT if you are registered, or required to be registered, for GST and you import or sell a luxury car – this includes retailers, wholesalers, manufacturers and other businesses that sell luxury cars or you are an individual (private buyer) and you import a luxury car.

It is a simple request P007,  show the official reference (ATO perhaps?) that shows, as you allege, that the LCT has just been reduced to 17.5% from 33%. Because what you have posted, apart from a political rant,  is nonsense. I just wonder why you  HAARP on about another topic you do not appear to understand, and yet again do not have valid references to.

Talking about nonsense,  where is the reference for this P007? : "This present govt is proposing to abolish tariffs on future sales of luxury cars/vehicles."

Call to end luxury car tariffs to slash prices

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/call-to-end-luxury-car-tariffs-to-slash-prices/stor...#

.......The luxury car tax applies to vehicles less than two years old that are worth more than $60,316 if their fuel consumption exceeds seven litres per 100km and $75,375 if they meet the fuel efficiency threshold.......

A spokeswoman for Joe Hockey said: “The government has committed to producing a taxation white paper that will look at all elements of the tax system and an announcement on the timing of this will be made in due course.”

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

http://theaimn.com/2014/05/27/the-abbott-form-of-social-engineering-reposted/

The Abbott Form of Social Engineering

“Only a crisis – actual or PERCEIVED – produces real change”… A variation on Machiavelli’s advice that “injuries” should be inflicted “all at once” – Naomi Klein, “Shock Doctrine”.

In other words, manufacture a sense of crisis and you can get away with anything starting with maximum harm. Therefore, the conservatives are manufacturing a non-existent debt crisis.

Margret Thatcher said this (Paraphrased):

“There is no such thing as society. There are only individuals making their way. The poor shall be looked after by the drip down effect of the rich”.

This is social engineering.

Tony Abbott for six years in Opposition created a negative image of our nation. He has never had a positive word to say about his country. He uses simplistic slogans to talk about complex problems and in doing so suggests he has answers when he doesn’t. He has spread negativity like rust throughout the community. This is because he sees a need to promote a sense of crisis, an Armageddon about everything. Everything is wrong and he is the only one who can fix it. There is a budget crisis

when none exists. There is a debt crisis (while adding to it) when none exists. There is a crisis about the cost of living when Australians have never had it better. It’s a deliberate tactic of social engineering. Create an illusion of disaster and people will believe the perception is in fact a reality. And of course keep on doing it when you attain government.

Another form of social engineering is making the people feel threatened. Tell them that the poor souls seeking asylum are below humanity, demonise them so that the people hate them. Take away all their rights and appeal to the base instincts of ordinary people and the racists. Apply a code of conduct and treat them like animals. Even take away the basic human right of association. Tell the people the absurd lie that their borders are under threat. And keep repeating the same slogans in government. Perpetuate the lie that you have stopped the boats when in all probability it was the other party’s policies that were responsible. It’s called social engineering.

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/may/26/young-unemployed-income-denied-support-six-months

Young unemployed could be denied welfare for longer than six months

Income support for unemployed people under 30 may be blocked beyond the six-month period the government announced

Unemployed young people could be denied income support for longer than the six months a year the government has flagged in the budget, with penalties applying if they miss job search interviews.

Guardian Australia understands the six-month period without any income support could be extended by a further two months if unemployed people under 30 miss appointments. If a certain number are missed then there is no way for the penalties to be waived, regardless of the person’s circumstances.

The social services minister, Kevin Andrews, confirmed people could go longer than six months without receiving any income support but did not name a specific timeframe.

The changes have been criticised by the community sector. The Jobs Australia chief executive, David Thompson, said extending the time that people would be without income support for beyond six months was making a bad situation worse.

He said job providers for unemployed people in stream one receive $11 they can spend on them which could be given to assist with public transport fares to and from job interviews.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

"I have already supplied my references Sir Monman. Suggest you go back and read again"

Actually you have only produced waffle in the form of long established and still current ATO guidelines,  no figures.  You have asserted that the LCT has recently been reduced to 17.5% from 33% so  produce the information to confirm  what I regard as nonsense.

"A spokeswoman for Joe Hockey said: “The government has committed to producing a taxation white paper that will look at all elements of the tax system" And this means what? Will it be like the ALP 2010 Henry tax review, 138  suggestions and only 3 adopted !

Homework:

1. Produce valid information confirming alleged recent reduction in LCT from 33% to 17.5% (no waffle)

2. Produce valid information confirming  that: This present govt is proposing to abolish tariffs on future sales of luxury cars/vehicles." (no nonsense)
