As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Actually John you'll notice that I only provided the link but not really a comment either way. It's conjecture, we are yet to see if there is any evidence as to the extent of cuts in regard to hospital funding. So you are wrong when you assume I didn't read the link. It is the government itself according to that link that claims a saving of $80 billion to schools and hospitals over 10 years. Since a savings of 80 billion a year doesn't fall from the sky the conjecture may well have some basis but we are yet to see what will occur.
As for the HACC funding, that has been cut by the state government with cuts also by the federal government. It's got nothing to do with Carers Australia vested interests and everything to do with the fact the government announced that themselves. However I do not have time to go hunting round the Internet for every little link, you can take it or leave it.
The fact still remains that the most vulnerable in this country are at risk through cuts across the board. It's sad that some can't see that and won't see that, because unless they are in that situation they would rather walk around with their eyes closed.

'Carer's Australia': A site with obvious "vested" interests, apart from which the "impacts" are only a forecast, not fact.
Its a chuckle.nษฅยบษพ
It looks like a pretty good reflection on the type of people some people are.
It takes a special sort of nasty to laugh at the vested interests of those in the disability community, especially by those in such a privileged position they can afford to laugh about their ability to minimise their tax obligation.

AM3: "Checked the FACTS did you before posting that??"
I would assert that NW did, because from the actual Meals on Wheels site http://www.mealsonwheels.org.au/Our-Supporters.aspx you will find:
"The Australian Meals on Wheels Association Inc. is not funded by Government and exists only on the fees collected from members and subscribers and the goodwill of sponsors."
On another site can also be found:
The Australian Government and the Queensland Government assumes some cost assistance for Meals on Wheels services by way of the meal subsidy scheme and also providing some limited capital funding. The current meal subsidy received by a Meals on Wheels service provider is $2.64 per delivered meal. The greatest resource in the cost of meals is the contribution of many thousands of volunteers. The combination of volunteers, government assistance, fee paid by the client and the wonderful community support, meets the running costs of the service. Such support demonstrates that Meals on Wheels is truly a community service."
The MOW site does assert: "The Australian Meals on Wheels Association Inc. is not funded by Government and exists only on the fees collected from members and subscribers and the goodwill of sponsors.", so NW can hardly be held to task for repeating that statement.
However, as to why the main body's statement is at variance with other information could possibly be found in the government funding of HACC who then allocates funds to appropriate claimants.

1:21pm: Speaking of the social services budget bills, Labor has wanted to talk about this very topic today.
In a statement just released, Bill Shorten and Jenny Macklin have said Labor will move amendments to remove 14 measures from the bills.
These include: putting young people under 25 on Youth Allowance, forcing young job seekers to wait six months until they can access unemployment benefits, raising the retirement age to 70 and stopping Family Tax Benefit Part B when the youngest child turns six.
In news which may in fact be news to budget watchers, Labor will also oppose the abolition of the seniors supplement (which is attached to the Commonwealth Seniors Health Card).
In a press conference just now, Shorten has said:
"How on earth can Labor be blackmailed into selling out the people of Australia because Tony Abbott and his government haven't got an idea how to run a budget?"

I doubt you would find that chuckle worthy if you had disabled dependant members of your family who need a carer.
