Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-04-20/disability-pensioners-may-be-reassessed-kevin-andrews/5400598

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

Back to the bottom of the C&P barrel and the self styled Independent AIMN,  complete with some pink copy from a "citizen journalist/blogger"
"And finally, the average taxpayer is working for a million years in order to pay for the jets we intend to buy. Sorry, I forgot the money for this had been set aside, so itโ€™s really no cost at all."

+Somewhat overlooked??:
"I want to stress that this is money that has been put aside by government over the past decade or so to ensure that this purchase (JSF) can responsibly be made."

The last decade (Circus in town?), when perhaps Poor Me and Rudd during their long knife throwing act did not notice the annual defence estimates, or the ever increasing budget deficit.

Whoops: "Opposition Leader Bill Shorten has backed the purchase of extra aircraft."

This blogger of your's BIG and as averse to research as some are here, because a check of this comment: "The average taxpayer is working for 402 years to pay for the PMโ€™s grant to Manly to build a new grandstand." reveals that:
Daily Telegraph Dec 2013
"It also gives Sea Eagles fans renewed hope that a $15 million funding shortfall for a new 5000 seat grandstand at Brookvale Oval can be erased. The outdated venue sits in the heart of Abbott's Warringah electorate, and, thanks to a pre-election pledge from the previous Labor Government, the Prime Minister is committed to stumping-up $10 million."
Whoops.

Back to Independent Blogging school, no, Independent Primary School.

As for tax paid and welfare utilised, these figures from the ABS are still relevant, but always "overlooked"!

Whoops

A  three "whoops" post, gosh!.

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

and now for some good news today....

http://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/2014/07/07/government-continuing-lose-favour-poll

Government continuing to lose favour: poll

Voter support for the federal government has dropped three points to 37 per cent, but more heavily in stronghold states Western Australia and Queensland, according to the latest Newspoll.

In findings being attributed to displeasure with the coalition's first budget, government support in WA has slipped six points to 40 per cent and by four points to 37 per cent in Queensland.

Men are generally continuing to back the government, but its support among females has dropped two points to 35 per cent, according to the results published by The Australian.

There has also been a significant fall in backing from older voters, with support among those aged between 35 and 49 tumbling three points to 34 per cent, and among those 50 and older falling from 48 per cent to 45 per cent.

Tony Abbott has also taken a hit, with only 38 per cent of voters in the prime minister's home state of NSW preferring him in the top job, compared to 42 per cent who say they'd back Bill Shorten.

The prime minister's personal rating has fallen sharply in all states and every demographic group.

Nationally, he is preferred as prime minister by 37 per cent of voters (a drop of four points) while nationwide approval for Mr Shorten has jumped from 36 per cent to 41 per cent.

"oh dear i do wonder why some of the cons fear IA and AIM"

Fear????:  citizen journalists and bloggers bereft  (like some here)  of the ability to research, and thus reduced to writing in self proclaimed "Independent" on line rags for a somewhat minimal Cycloptic  audience all wearing  pink lensed monocles.  No, I doubt "fear" is appropriate.  Amused is  a polite description of the many C&P posts presented (copied),  obviously unchecked,  but of the right color (left colour actually!) e.g. from earlier post:

"The average taxpayer is working for 402 years to pay for the PMโ€™s grant to Manly to build a new grandstand."
When the facts were "and, thanks to a pre-election pledge from the previous Labor Government, the Prime Minister is committed to stumping-up $10 million."
Whoops.

By your C&P,s will you be known......as "whoops"!

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

Report of the Expert Panel on Asylum Seekers, August 2012 p.81

Attachment 3: Australiaโ€™s International law obligations with respect to refugees and asylum seekers :

International human rights law

Non-refoulement

australia has obligations under the

International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (Iccpr) and the Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment not to return a person to a country where he/she would be at a real risk of irreparable harm by way of arbitrary deprivation of life or application of the death penalty, torture, or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

Where

non-refoulement concerns arise, an assessment of the real risk of harm must take into account all the circumstances of the particular case. These could include: the personal risk faced by the claimant; the human rights record of the relevant country; and, if relevant, the content and credibility of any agreements or assurances as to treatment.

australiaโ€™s

non-refoulement obligations under international human rights law exist regardless

of whether a person is entitled to

non-refoulement protection under the refugees convention.

....p.83...

Law of the sea

Australiaโ€™s obligations that relate to the interdiction of a suspected irregular entry vessel (SIEV), the rescue of persons at sea and safety of life at sea (in addition to any obligations under international human rights law and the refugees convention) arise from:

    • United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS);

    • International Convention on Maritime Search and Rescue (SAR Convention); and
    • International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS Convention).

                                                ..............................................................

.....MMmmmmmm!!!

Food for thought here Mr S Morrison

Re: Diary of our stinking Govt.

Oh gosh I thought some posts had reached  the bottom with C&P sans research and from "Independent bloggers", but I guess there are some pick-axes available to dig deeper,  because now we have just a link, no text, no comment, no research, and from The Guardian !

I do wonder at the reasons for the first boat's passengers reasons for undertaking the sea voyage, because of the 41,  38 are Sinhalese and 3 Tamils. Latest comments from Sri Lanka indicate the "passengers" who have committed an emigration offence under  Sri Lanka law will released under bail,  whilst the boat crew/smugglers will be held.

But I am now in the poo because I read the article and have commented upon it, but I promise I will try the new format in my next post, honest.

The High Court has granted a temporary injunction......Smiley Happy

....but, where are these 153 people - including 30 children?

But the injunction may already be too late; the Tamil Refugee Council fears the Australian Navy might have already handed the asylum seekers over.
